Get ready for a frenzy of cuteness! Herbert has made his way onto the available page. This two-year-old black masked fawn is ready to find his new forever home. He was surrendered to FBRN when he started losing mobility in his hind end and his owner was unable to afford corrective surgery. The good news is that Herbert has had the surgery to correct the issue and is on the mend!
Herbert will need monitoring to make sure that he doesn't jump on and off furniture, practice his parkour skills, or go up and down stairs on his own. He's not currently on any medications and at this time has no other medical issues that he is being monitored for. Herbert is also the perfect trifecta! He loves cats, kids, and dogs.
Herbert is a snuggle bug! He loves to be near his humans and chew on his bones or antlers. Herbert has mastered the art of being able to snuggle his head between your arm and body to get his cuddles in! If your arm is in the way, no problem he will paw at it, to make sure that he can snuggle right into your lap. Herbert is a spritely pup with a curious nature! He is more of a follower who is smart and picks-up on commands quickly.
Herbert is housebroken, however when he's gotta go, he's gotta go. He will not wait around for you to let him out and will instead find the nearest crate pad or blanket to do his business on. Herbert should be on a regular schedule if you don’t want him to do his business inside! Herbert could do well in any type of home. He would need a fenced yard to explore or a securely fenced dog park to roam. He likes cats, other dogs, and also children. He'd do great with a family who is ready to keep him from his running, or parkour routines, and also has experience with dogs who have IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease).
Herbert has no problem staying in his crate, but does love his people time. Herbert could adjust to going to an office, but it might take some practice, as his curious nature would get him pretty excited to explore his new surroundings. Someone that could come home to spend some time with Herbert during the day would be a huge bonus!
Herbert's foster mom had this to say about him, "He is a precious and loving little cuddle bug. All he wants to do is be a young healthy pup, possibly to his detriment. With his history of IVDD, he could re-injury himself by jumping around, running, taking stairs, etc. He burns that energy with his puzzle toys. He also likes to try and catch your hand if he thinks there is a treat in them. Such a sweet loving little boy who deserves a family that will put his health needs above his needs to be rambunctious. He can play and still be a healthy pup doing other things. His human just has to show him how."
If you think that you have the perfect home for Herbert and don't mind monitoring his activities, then all you need to do is apply to adopt him. After that, be ready to pick up Herbert and start your adventures, should you be selected to be his forever home! FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo, so adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.
FBRN dogs are in foster care in people's private homes. For the foster families' safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don't set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the extensive bios on each dog.
Herbert has IVDD and had corrective surgery on 5/25/2021. He must be closely monitored and must always be carried up and down stairs and must not be allowed to jump up on or off of furniture.
