HONORARY FRENCHIES....

"We're not Frenchies, but don't we deserve homes too?"

Bugsy is a one-year-old neutered male French Bulldog/Boston Terrier mix, brindle and white, 20-21 pounds who lives in the NY/NJ area. This pink-cheeked cuddlebug is also a dominant little guy. He's crate trained and has basic obedience training, he rings a bell that hangs on the front door when he wants to go out – and sometimes when he wants attention. This energetic cutie adores children and all other people, cats, some dogs, playing with toys, cuddling, and is a virtual lick-o-matic. He’s quite the clown, easily walks on his hind legs, still has the puppy crazies, and when he’s tired he often sleeps on his back and looks really weird! Bugsy will definitely make you laugh!

Bugsy needs to be an only dog, which is the reason he’s looking for a new home. Cats are okay, although they may be licked by this determined kisser. He’s used to living with someone who works at home, so Bugsy’s new mom or dad should be home based or be able to take him to work. Although he’s crate trained, he’s never been left in his crate for more than a couple of hours at a time. He’s housebroken, but again, he’s used to someone being responsive to his requests to go out by ringing his bell. Bugsy’s future home must have a fenced yard – but as with any flat-faced breed, he’s not an outdoor dog. This dog needs someone to love who is dog-savvy, can continue his obedience training, and most importantly, who will provide excellent veterinary care. Since he has a somewhat sensitive stomach, Bugsy must eat a specific diet food. Also, a home that will provide nice warm clothes would be appreciated by this goofy little dog; he has a thin coat and a low shivering threshold! Cuddling in bed with a human works well too…

Potential adopters please note:

Bugsy’s placement will require an interview, vet check, home check, donation to rescue, in-person pickup, regular communication with his prior family -- and a contract stating he must be returned to his prior family if things don't work out in his new home.

Jeffrey's Mother:

Jeffrey is 1/2 champion black Lab, and 1/2 French bulldog. He is 1 year old. Very intelligent, and in need of a structured environment where he may be encouraged intellectually and athletically. I fostered his mother (a French bulldog) the night after she had an emergency c-section that produced three Labrador pups. I raised all three pups until they were adopted, then adopted their mother myself. (Murpheee, my French bulldog, inadvertently nursed Jeffrey a couple of times when trying to help out Lillie.) All the puppies lived and were adopted. When the man who dumped Lillie (the mom) at the vet clinic, he explained that his neighbor was furious that his champion black Lab had tarnished himself by mating with a French bulldog. I have attached photos of Jeffrey as a puppy and as an adult. Lillie was in a horrific state of neglect. It is a wonder that any of them survived. She has since sustained two complete ear ablations, etc. etc. etc.

Here is Jeffrey's story: He was adopted as a 12 week-old puppy to a family who made a training commitment and didn't follow through. Jeffrey, a young and energetic puppy was left behind when the family and their other dog went everywhere together. Jeffrey is a very smart boy who needs structure and guidance. He never understood where he fit in life and in this family. When Jeffrey began to display excited and insecure puppy behavior, his owners bought a chihuahua and left Jeffrey at DAWG two months later.

He is incredibly responsive and will soon be a graduate of professional training (which I am paying for, and following up on during the week). Jeffrey can be very selective when choosing his dog buddies (although he lived with another dog), but we are working on making him feel safe and confident in all situations. His trainer says that he is one of the smartest dogs that she has ever met. Now, at 1 year old and 55 lbs, he needs a home where he will receive structure, unconditional love, and training. He loves to take athletic adventures and to cuddle like a baby. Contact Karen at k9ambassador@gmail.com for more information.
