UPDATE 3/20/08: At last, we appear to be getting somewhere in terms of a diagnosis for Wasabi! The latest theory is a combination of factors, including psychogenic polydipsia (a behavioral disorder that causes dogs to drink water compulsively); Reflex Dyssynergia; and lumbro sacral disease. Drug therapy may help with the peeing, and we'll have to see about the spinal issues.
Wasabi is a fourteen month-old honey pied Frenchie. His foster mom describes him as the sweetest, most adorable frog she's ever met. He was surrendered because a vet diagnosed him with Diabetes Insipidus, and the medicine was more expensive than his owner could manage. He's been untreated for a little while now, and his health problems mean he is tough to housetrain, as he produces lots of urine.
Wasabi has been to the vet, and he is negative for heartworm and intestinal parasites. The vet also found no evidence of Diabetes, but Wasabi will go back for more blood tests this week. Meanwhile, he is a hilarious young thing and is causing hearts to fly up whenever he appears! If you'd like to sponsor Wasabi and help us get to the root of his health problems, just click on his photo.
