8/3/11: Tygger has crossed the Rainbow Bridge
Updated 9/8/10
Tygger and I made it through another uneventful month, it was wonderful. Then in the latter part of last week, the licking of paws and the thump, thump of his paw hitting the floor when scratching his side. Oh, no. The allergies are back, and with a vengeance.
I tried all the tricks I know to keep him comfortable. He has been taking OTC antihistamines, enjoying coconut oil, rinsed in Apple Cider Vinegar w/ Mother and a touch of Skin So Soft, but no relief.
I noticed pustules on his groin and armpits, so I knew we were in over his Frenchie head.
Luckily, relief was simply one vet visit away. Tygger was having an allergy flair accompanied by a bacterial infection. So a little of this and a lot of that, and Handsome is back in the ball game! Such a good boy, weighing in at a perfect 27.3 pounds of Senior Frenchie muscle.
We can handle the allergy flare with a feeling of control. The megaesophagus is entirely different, entirely scary and a disease with a mind of its own. For the present, the ME is under control, no problems with the disease and I remain very thankful. Tyg does as well !!! He continues doing so very well as a twelve year old Hospice Foster who makes each day a joy...

Updated 5/4/10
Tygger prefers the entire month passes before his update in the event something interesting happens! Well, it did. Tygger turned 12 years old on April 18, 2010. This sassy senior was born in 1998, and even with a neurological problem involving his backside and gait along with the ME that has hindered him, he is still snotty and snorty. He is so funny, the better he feels and the more relaxed he is, the more of his personality shines through. He is alert, a tad bossy and most certainly food aggressive. I think he remembers so many times of being hungry that no one or no food will escape him. On the other hand, he sleeps like a baby all night, fits in with the petting zoo at my home and is wonderful company. He simply requires extra time and effort. He is at a desired weight, no regurgitation, takes medications daily and is an allergy sufferer. We are working to allow the senior years to be his best years, and his crooked little smile is worth each minute of his care.

Tygger has come to stay with us at FBRN for a bit while we sort out his medical problems and find a new forever home for this distinguished 12 year old gentleman. Tygger has a problem with keeping his food down, and his former owner decided it was kinder to find this guy a new home instead of keeping him isolated in the kitchen. Tygger has been 'urping' up his food for some time now, and has become a very prolific 'urper' at times. We will be helping him figure out the cause of this during his time in foster care. Tygger also has a partially paralyzed face from a serious ear infection, but we think his floppy ear gives him character. So far, Tygger is a sweet, older dog who is settling into his new circumstances in life. His foster mom will be getting to know him and what the future holds for him, but for today, he is safe, sound and very well cared for.
If you would like to help Tygger resolve his 'urping' issues, please click on his pictures. He will be most grateful. |
