When you hear the word “Tiki” it normally conjures up torches, backyard luaus, beaches, carvings or even football. Very rarely would one ever relate a tiny, little 19 pound, five-year-old Frenchie.
Our new foster, Tiki, came to us via another Good Samaritan (Cue round of applause, please). This gentleman attempted to provide housing and veterinary care for Tiki, but after a devastating diagnosis of Heartworm disease and the coincident loss of his job, this prospective dog daddy was forced to rethink his circumstances in order to provide a better life for Tiki and called us in.
And what an excellent decision that turned out to be! Tiki has a high worm count and will need the full support of all our loyal FBRN donors to help get him through. There will be many, many expensive vet visits and many, many expensive treatments looming in his future. He is already beginning a course of antibiotics and is scheduled for radiographs immediately.
Alas! Not only does Tiki have Heartworm disease to contend with, he will also need a dental to shine up some fairly rotten looking teeth when he’s out of the woods, cardiac wise. And...he will need a neuter as well as a palate clip to rectify his severely labored breathing. Some frogs just can’t catch a break!
On the upside, foster mom happily reports that her little man is
beginning to settle into his new digs. It is very obvious by his
constant licking and overall ineptitude that Tiki has had very little
doggy socialization. He is using the resident Frenchie as his mentor,
though, and in general he seems to be a laid back guy. Simple physical
contact such as being petted, or low crooning to Tiki whips him into a
state of pure excited bliss!
The stresses of moving from one place to another, as well as having to
endure such a challenging, physical medical treatment, have taken their
toll on sweet Tiki. Why not send him a “Get Well Soon!” note as well as
a few dollars toward his rapidly rising veterinary costs? We love that
we can always count on our loyal supporters to come to the aid of dogs
like Tiki! |
