UPDATE 7/7/09:
Ouija is recovering from complex surgery to address her malformed urethra. We are hoping that when the swelling subsides and the healing is complete, that Ouija's piddle issues will be a thing of the past! Thank you so much for donating towards her surgery!
Oh my goodness, we assure you it’s safe to play with this Ouija. Already, this 5-month old puppy has stolen many hearts, and we suspect she’ll continue to add to her collection every day.
She was surrendered to a vet’s office by her original owner, after it was found that she has a congenital defect where her thoracolumbar and sacral vertebrae are fused. One of the vet techs fell in love with Ouija and has cared for her and loved her in hopes of figuring out a treatment course for this baby. However, with a human baby at home, the good-hearted vet tech quickly realized that this puppy may need more long-term special care than initially thought and decided to hand this bundle of joy over to FBRN for further care.
At this point, the fused vertebrae do not affect Ouija’s movement, and they certainly don’t get in the way of her puppy antics. However, her condition does affect bladder control and she frequently dribbles urine, so for now she must wear a diaper indoors.
We expect little Ouija will need to see specialists so that we can try our best to help this puppy build bladder control, and more importantly, ensure her long-term health. We hope you’ll fall in love with this adorable puppy so that perhaps you’ll consider sending a little sponsorship money her way. Please click on her picture on the right, and donate whatever you can. It’s only through your contributions big and small that we may continue our work with dogs like Ouija.
