OKLAHOMA 10 PUPPYMILL
Our beautiful, changeable Opal comes from inhumane origins. She was one of the puppy mill rescues who were bought at an Oklahoma auction and turned over to FBRN. Purchased with private funds and bought out from under would-be exploiters, the ten dogs who came to us are learning about house training, nutritious food, loving touch and soft, clean beds.
Opal is visually impaired, with beginning cataracts in both eyes and an untreated, healed-over wound in the other. Like most dogs in millers' care, her injuries were never observed--or if they were noticed, they weren't treated. Vet costs bite into profits. Dogs don't have to be sighted to be bred, and they don't have to be cuddled or cared for to make money. In addition to the dozens of ticks that have fallen or been pulled off of her, Opal has a nasty yeast infection and a serious infestation of earmites.
But after only a few days in foster care, she has already gotten the hang of outside pottying. She has learned to play with toys and to challenge the resident Frenchie to tug of war. She is basking in the Texas springtime sunshine and joyfully offering kisses and taking advantage of snuggle time. This little gem is going to shine in her forever family's home.
If you would like to donate toward her veterinary care, spay or toy fund, please click on her photo and tell us it's for Opal.
