8/3/11: Oberon has crossed the Rainbow Bridge
French Bulldogs are no strangers to skin problems and medical issues in general. Oberon is our newest foster in a long list of those who will need costly, ongoing veterinary treatment.
Emaciated, 3-4 year old Oberon was found in an alley by a Good Samaritan, scavenging for his supper in garbage cans. With no collar or microchip and without the ability to care for him, the Good Samaritan was forced to bring him to the local shelter. Lucky for Oberon, the shelter called our volunteer who swooped right in and plucked him out post-haste.
To say Oberon has been terribly neglected would be understating his condition. His maiden voyage to the vet revealed alarming, expensive results. Oberon has an appalling, generalized fungal infection with an underlying bacterial infection. His skin is in atrocious condition, he smells terribly, is missing fur and he is scabby and raw. His beautiful bat ears are both completely closed down tight with cauliflower like scar tissue from multiple untreated ear infections. He is deaf as a result. Oberon will need a bilateral Total Ear Canal Ablation (TECA) with one ear operated on at a time. He still needs to be neutered; there is a soft mass above his testicles that we hope is nothing. Oberon makes a scary rattling sound when he breathes, and will also need to have his nares opened and have a palate resection. Last, but most certainly not least, he has tapeworm.
Oberon left the vet with a bag full of medications and shampoos. In spite of all this, his foster mom says he is a handsome, happy, bouncy and curious frog. He gives kisses to everyone and just wants to be loved and love right back.
Oberon's treatment is going to incur some serious expenses. Don't you think he deserves to feel better and live a life of luxury to make up for his severe neglect? Please dig deep in the couch cushions and help give what you can for Oberon. You've come through for frogs in need before. We're counting on your generous support again! |
