FBRN received a call telling us about an 11 year-old Frenchie named Nite, who was left at a clinic by his former owners to be euthanized because he leaked urine. The kind-hearted vets and vet tech trainee examined Nite and gave him an X-ray, but couldn’t find anything wrong with him other than occasional allergies and some disc disease. When FBRN went to pick Nite up, they found the sweet elderly Nite calmly hanging out in the clinic with the vet tech's dog. The vet tech trainee who called FBRN had come in on her own time to bathe Nite, clean his ears, and trim his nails. A proper beginning to Nite’s new life, where he will only know love and security.

Upon arriving at his foster home, Nite proceeded to roll on his back for some belly rubs, and his foster family calls him the “cuddly oldster.” He was taken to his foster family’s vet, where it was discovered that he has an arthritis/bone growth on his spine that is impinging on his nerves. His right hip is barely seated, and his left is not much better. The vet prescribed Nite a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and a glucosamine/chondroitin/msn supplement and fish oil.

Nite’s mouth is also in bad shape, with a lot of debris and fur between his teeth and gum line, but the good news is that the vet saw no abscesses or tumors. When the vet tried to scrape some of the gunk out with a dental tool, some of his poor brown teeth started to crumble. He was prescribed antibiotics to treat an infection in his gums and an infected abscess in one of his nose rolls. Other than these problems, the vet thought he looked good for an older dog; she found no cataracts, and his heart sounded good.

Nite is spoiled like an old man should be, declare his foster mom and dad, who tell us how much they enjoy fussing over him. Nite gets lots of cuddles, is eating well, and enjoys his short backyard strolls for pottying. He hasn’t had any accidents in his foster home or crate, but if he does no one will get angry with him. Nite will be cherished in his old age; wee-wee, rotten teeth, and all.

It has been said that Nite is very lucky, but FBRN is too: We all feel so fortunate to be part of the effort of caring for this elderly Frenchie. Please join us in making a donation to help Nite fix those achy toofs, and refill his supply of antibiotics and supplements. Nite will let you rub his belly if you do!
