The holidays may be over, but every day is Christmas for our newest foster, Merry. Picked up on Christmas Eve, Merry was purchased by her former owner from an puppy mill and surrendered to us 2 weeks later when she was unable to housebreak her. Puppy mill dogs require a lot of patience and time to get used to not living in a cage. Please read the puppy mill article we have posted if you'd like to learn more about the special considerations when adopting puppy mill survivors.
Merry is a very skinny, cream colored frog who has been bred numerous times. She has lived her entire life in a 3x3 wire cage in a barn with no heat, air condition, or electricity. Such is the existence of a puppy mill dog. Merry's vet has confirmed she thinks Merry is 5 yo, but she acts like a puppy. She has never experienced anything. She anxiously watches airplanes fly over head and is nervous about lots of things. However, she does like watching tv. And she has discovered the toy basket! While she still needs some guidance and work with house manners, her foster mom says she is a quick learner and will make a wonderful companion.
She will need to be spayed and has some mild skin allergies which may resolve now that she is on a good diet. She is otherwise healthy.
If you would like to send Merry some belated holiday gifts to help out with her care and to buy this girl her own toys, please click on her picture and tell us it's for Merry. |
