Aloha, Liko! FBRN is proud to welcome our first ever foster from Hawaii. Surrendered to our sole volunteer in the tropical paradise, eight month old Liko also clocked our longest transport ever. Thanks to the teamwork and coordination of incredible volunteers, he flew twelve hours from Hawaii to Colorado where his foster family was waiting. A special tip of the hat is due to our Hawaiian volunteer who completed the necessary paperwork and donated all of his travel expenses.

Liko’s story is a classic case of caveat emptor. His family purchased him from an unscrupulous breeder. When they first met the adorable brindle puppy, the breeder claimed that he had a urinary “issue” which was why he was in diapers. When they got him home, they soon realized he was totally incontinent. When contacted, the breeder refused to give a refund and soon vanished. His family loved Liko, the best dog they ever had, and took him to a specialist who concluded he has a condition similar to spina bifida. His mom cared for him, keeping him in diapers and enjoying his wonderful personality. Unfortunately, a pregnancy and impending transfer meant she could no longer give Liko the attention he needs.

Liko was such a good traveler and greeted his foster mom with excitement after the long trip. He’s a lucky little fellow – she has an affinity for special needs froggies and makes the cutest little diaper panties on the planet. In addition to his incontinence Liko has problems with his hips and his gait is affected. But, he gets around perfectly fine, enjoys all the other dogs, and in every respect is a delightful puppy.

We will have Liko assessed to make sure we are doing everything possible to ensure him a long, happy life, and he also needs to be neutered. Please click on Liko’s little face to the right to show him a big mainland welcome and contribute toward his care.
