We are planning a party to welcome Lia to FBRN, but are having a hard time deciding on the appropriate cuisine. A Russian by birth, Lia emigrated as a puppy all the way to the United States where she was raised as a Texan. So, how does borscht and barbecue sound? Well, regardless of the refreshments it will be a big celebration for Lia who is retiring from her puppy producing days.

Lia’s life in America got off to a rocky start when at six months it was discovered that she is deaf and also has some bone growth and development problems. Even with these handicaps she was bred and had her last litter this past July. Now, she is more than ready for a life full of belly rubs and relaxing.

Her first vet appointment revealed both good news and bad news. The good news is that her blood panel results were excellent, clearing the way for her spay. The not-so-good news is that she has an ulcer on her right cornea and old scarring on her left eye. In addition to being deaf, she can barely see. Bad ear and urinary tract infections along with red, yeasty skin round out the sad picture. With a big bag full of medicines to take and her foster mom’s follow-up care, Lia will soon feel like a new frog.

Already wiggling her little way into her foster family’s hearts, her foster mom says this about Lia, “Despite whatever may ail her, Lia is absolutely the sweetest soul I have ever met. She has an endless supply of love, kisses and snuggles to give out. Her crate is her heaven. She gets right in and makes herself at home with lots of blankets all around.”

With her Russo-Texan spirit alive and kicking, Lia is a big hit here in FBRN. We hope you will help with her medical bills so she will be ready soon for a loving forever home. Please click on her picture to the right to chip in. We thank you for any amount you can spare.
