What name do you give a senior frog that has lived his life on the streets? Gris-Gris Benoit of course! Because he has been nameless for so long his foster mom proclaimed that he deserves two names; “Gris” because it means “grey” in French, and “Benoit” just simply because it’s French!

Ten year old Gris-Gris is proving himself to be a most excellent houseguest. His foster mom says he’s quiet and gentle and doesn’t even complain about the menu. He’s housebroken, doing very well with his crate training, is getting the hang of basic commands, doesn’t mark indoors and walks decently on a leash. And they say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks!

Gris-Gris was also a fabulous patient at the animal hospital where he was checked out from head to toe, but got a less than stellar report card. Incidental findings such as a crusty nose and flaky dry skin should be easily remedied with some lotion and dietary changes. He has some arthritis, cataracts and bad teeth which may be a combination of normal aging and street life. The most concerning finding on his exam was the discovery of heartworm disease. Gris-Gris’ vet said both his heart and lungs sound clear but he will need an x-ray to determine the extent of the heartworm damage before a course of treatment is decided.

For the time being, Gris-Gris is enjoying the company of his foster mom, cozying up on the couch in a warm loving home and soaking up all the treats and attention he’s been missing for so many years.
