Gaston has suffered another allergic reaction with severe secondary skin infection, including an anti-biotic-resistant infection. He will be on the foster page until we can get his skin back in good shape.
Keep a good thought for our itchy, unhappy boy.
Oh, Gaston! This 6-month-old cutie pie is a newcomer to FBRN, and he's ready to bound his way into your heart like the irresistible puppy he is. Sweet, cuddly, and full of beans, Gaston is ready for a change in luck for the better. He came from a shelter in Texas, and we're thrilled to be able to give him a new lease on life. Gaston has demodectic mange, which is not contagious but can be tenacious and is definitely itchy and uncomfortable. He's started treatment already, and he'll be feeling much better in no time. Because demodex also suppresses the immune system, he needs to wait a bit before he can get his immunizations and a neuter surgery. Gaston also has a mild heart murmur. Sometimes these things resolve themselves as pups get older, and sometimes they need to be monitored. Only time will tell, but Gaston, for one, is unconcerned.
Gaston will need some help learning the appropriate places to do his business and what a crate is (and isn't) for. It appears as though he has spent a good deal of time in a crate partially because of his potty habits but also because he has the tell-tale splayed paws—indications of malnutrition and extended time on a wire-bottomed crate. Gaston also doesn't seem to have had much socialization with people, dogs, or toys. It seems that he has had six months of nothing but neglect. We're so glad he has such a long life ahead of him to overwrite those early experiences.
Gaston will bounce back and be in tip-top shape before you know it. And then, look out! He'll be headed for an available page near you, ready to bounce his way into your life forever. If you can help us out with Gaston's treatments for his skin and his neuter surgery, it would be such a help. It's thanks to all of you that we can continue to help sweet, spunky, splay-footed frogs like Gaston! |
