One of FBRN’s newest fosters set out on his own, just like his namesake Davy Crockett. All he is missing is his raccoon tailed cap. Unfortunately, what Crockett is not missing is a whole host of medical issues. Crockett came to us after wandering into someone’s yard. The homeowner called her local shelter and they kindly notified FBRN. One of our volunteers enlisted her soon-to-be daughter in law's mother to spring him from the shelter. (Saving frogs is a family affair!)
Crockett has a sweet as apple pie temperament. He took the 4 hour car ride to rescue him in stride, and was very quiet and mellow in his temporary foster home. His foster mom guesses him to be about 5 years old and reports that everyone who meets him falls in love with this dear boy.
Crockett has had a tough road in his previous life. Although we don’t know his history, it’s obvious that there has been no one looking out for this frog. He went to what seems his first vet visit in a long time, which revealed a host of issues that Crockett will be working on while in foster care. The most important to address is heartworm. In addition, he needs to be neutered; he has skin and ear infections and a mass growing on his gum. The good news is his bloodwork was otherwise normal, so we are hoping some love, good food, lots of spa treatments and more love will do the trick. Crockett will be neutered and have that mass removed as well as his teeth cleaned and then he will start heartworm treatment. This little guy has had such a rough road; we are all hoping this is the start of a new day for him.
