hospice dog
2/2/12
Colonel has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Colonel came to FBRN because his former dad's new wife was severely allergic to him. A handsome, 9-year-old brindle boy, he had been with his dad for all of those 9 years. Colonel's loving dad took very good care of him and it was first thought that Colonel would be able to move to a loving forever home pretty quickly. However, Colonel was recently diagnosed with two different types of cancer and it is now thought best if he remains in foster care as a hospice dog.
The vet told Colonel's foster mom that both are slow-growing types of cancers, but one is the type that produces large tumors. A large tumor was recently removed from Colonel's rear and it is likely that he will get another growth in the same area. The vet has given him a life expectancy of only three to eight months.
Colonel is still a happy dog and enjoys chewing on his Nylabones & antlers. He gets along well with the two resident Frenchies and he is quite comfortable in his foster home. We feel that it is best to put him on the hospice list and allow him to live out his days with his loving foster family.
