Update 12-16-09
Cali will be staying in the loving arms of her foster family. We could not be happier for her, or for them!
Tick…Tock. We have all seen the old black and white films. The minute hand on the big wall clock moves with a mechanical “thunk” as each precious bit of time goes by. Without the last minute pardon, the condemned is doomed.
This scene was playing out for Cali. But, thanks to the cooperative work of Boxer rescue and a dedicated vet tech, Cali received her reprieve. A sweet brindle girl, Cali had spinal surgery in January but was subsequently crated and did not receive physical therapy. Recently, her owners opted to leave her at a vet’s office to be euthanized. Then the call went out through the rescue network, and FBRN was contacted. The vet tech stayed after the office was closed to meet our volunteer.
Safe in her foster home, Cali is a sweetie and a speedy scooter, using her front paws to get around. She also has some limited use of one back leg. Incontinent, she wakes herself up when she has a bowel movement and is speedily cleaned. She loves the security of her crate, but she needs to get out, moving and building her muscles.
Cali is going to need evaluation to see how much motion she is likely to regain with physical therapy. We will have to decide if she is a good candidate for a cart. Her dedicated foster home will need to spend time taking to her to the vet clinics and to rehabilitation. Money and time – all to give Cali another chance at life.
