Cajun's vet discovered that heartworm damage to Cajun's lung and heart is too severe to treat. He will stay with his foster family.
Please join us in welcoming Cajun to the growing family of FBRN foster Frenchies! Cajun came into our care not long after he was purchased from what appears to be a breeding facility. From what we can gather, Cajun seems to have spent most of his life in a crate and used as a breeder male. It does not appear that Cajun received adequate medical care; at his first vet visit, the vet informed his foster mom that Cajun is heartworm positive, has palate issues that affect his breathing, is walleyed, and at 20 pounds is very underweight for his size. His hips and knees are not the best, but we are hoping that some of that is the result of atrophy, which will improve now that he has discovered the joy of running around open spaces.
Cajun is a precious boy, his foster mama tells us. He is curious about his surroundings, and is extremely puzzled as to what toys are. But, Cajun knows a thing or two about being charming, as we heard reports that the ladies at the vet clinic absolutely swooned over him!
He will get to know all the vet staff quite well in the coming months, as he must be treated for heartworm, undergo a neuter, have palate surgery, and receive much needed dental work. At his foster home, he’ll be gobbling up lots of nutritious meals and healthy snacks to gain weight. At the age of eight, Cajun is enjoying a fresh start, and we think it won’t be long before he adjusts to life as a cherished pet. In the meantime, if you’d like to help towards the costs of Cajun’s vet care please click on his handsome mug, and tell the little guy “Welcome!” |
