UPDATE 6/16/09:
Bugsy had a birthday, so now he's 4 years old. We continue to feed him a raw diet. But as protective as we thought the tee shirts were, he's had to stop wearing those, as he's allergic to cotton. He still likes baths because we gave him treats the first few times. That won him over!
Bugsy Malone has had a scratch test done. His results from the Scratch Test combined with the results from his Inhaled Allergy Test identified the following allergens in the Mid-Atlantic region: House dust, cotton, wool, 3 molds, 4 trees, 5 grasses, 5 weeds.
He gets allergy shots and is also on Atopica now. FYI to adopters: Bugsy's annual allergy treatment costs will likely be in the $250 range. In addition, he's got hypothyroidism and is on a twice a day dose of Soloxine to balance that out.
Bugsy loves to chew his toys, go for walks and get belly rubs. And his very favorite thing is to go for car rides! He's very calm and would do well in a home with other calm to medium energy dogs.
Brooklyn-born Bugsy Malone was surrendered because try as they might, his family could not cure his allergies. He is 3 years old and has been suffering from severe unknown allergies for the past two years.
Bugsy arrived with a bag full of meds and a secondary staph infection. His foster mom is treating him from the inside out, beginning with an all-new raw diet. No more kibble for this itchy boy.
To protect his skin, Bugsy wears a shirt, which he LOVES. His foster mom says that when she gets a new shirt out, Bugsy jumps around and pushes his head right into it.
Another too-cute Bugsyism is that he fights sleep like a little kid--his eyes start getting heavy and his head droops, but make a noise and Bugsy perks right up to make sure he’s not missing a moment of the action!
Bugsy loves walks, Nylabones, and Masaleb baths. He’s a keen observer with a sweet personality who will be on the lookout for a new family just as soon as his itchies are under control. If you'd like to help him out, just click on his photo! |
