becky has gone to the Rainbow Bridge

UPDATE 4/7/09
Becky has been diagnosed with aggressive mast cell cancer. We don't know how long she has, but she will live out her life in the loving foster home that is the only real home this puppy mill survivor has ever known.

Meet Becky, who checked into FBRN after she was found wandering around a motel parking lot in the mining town of Bisbee, Arizona.

As Becky starts the new year in rescue, FBRN has a list of resolutions for her. In 2009, Becky will:

• Have her blind, damaged eye surgically removed.

• Have the cyst on her rear end removed and biopsied.

• Have several teeth removed, and the rest cleaned.

• Get rabies and other vaccinations.

• Accessorize with a microchip.

• Get spayed – if she isn't already pregnant!

Although Becky's vet doesn't think she is currently pregnant, that big belly is reason enough for caution; he'll wait 30 days before attempting any medical intervention on this sweet but tired brindle girl, who is assumed to be an abandoned breeder about 5 years of age.

Becky's most important new year's goal will be learning to live with a family. That may be the easiest of all her many plans, as her foster mom says she is liberal with her kisses and friendly to the resident dogs.

Becky's stay with FBRN is certain to be a lengthy one, and will require at least two separate surgeries. If your own resolutions for 2009 included giving alms for the sick or the poor, Becky qualifies on both counts. Keep your resolution – and help Becky keep hers – by clicking on her photo.
