Oh, this handsome boy could certainly be one of the Baldwin brothers--look at his beautiful visage! He was surrendered very tearfully by a loving mom who just couldn't swing the cost of the MRI and spinal surgery he needed to get better. These frogdogs have a predisposition to spinal injury, on account of their build, and we take in half a dozen or so suddenly paralyzed dogs every year when their owners can't afford the surgery to fix them. Dogs like Baldwin have a good chance of fully recovering if they get into the surgeon very quickly--within 48 hours. We are so glad Baldwin's family called us and we had the volunteers nearby to get him to a good specialty vet with all the equipment and the surgeons available to do the job.
Right now, Baldwin is up on his feet from time to time and with the help of a sling mostly peeing by himself, but it's just a few days post-surgery. It takes a little while for a dog to regain full use of his hinder parts after a serious surgery, as you can imagine. The doctor found and removed disc material from three different places in his spine, so when he's up and about again, he'll feel like a brand-new boy!
All the folks at the hospital think he's simply swoon-worthy, and he is just as lovable as he is handsome! He could use some love and sponsors, on account of he's going to be spending the next 4-6 weeks or so in the crate, resting, with nothing to do but watch the world go by. A toy or two or three to help pass the time would be swell. If you've got more than a couple bucks, we could also really use some help paying off the *gulp* MRI and surgery bills! If your Frenchie has ever needed spinal surgery, you know that you need a movie star's paycheck to pay that off. While you are sponsoring him, why not leave a little note of encouragement for the boy while he's in the penalty box all by himself? We promise we'll read them to him and let him know he has fans! |
