Tubbs is tons of fun! He’s a happy, young, athletic Frenchie looking for the right family to call his own. A little of bit of harmless mischief is always in order when this guy is around; everyone loves a practical joke once in a while.
This medium-sized Frenchie has the temperament of a dog that was well-loved by his former family. Unfortunately for all involved, the family’s human baby was allergic to Tubbs. He was surrendered to FBRN and we promised we’d find him a home where he could be a part of the family without making anyone ill.
Tubbs just finished a one month course of antibiotics for Lyme disease, and while he has the all-clear from the vet to find his forever home, he will need to be tested again in six months. He also has some mild allergies that flare up every now and then giving him an itchy chin and red eyes. Medicated shampoo baths and eye ointment (as needed) help keep the itchies at bay. It is not known exactly what allergens cause his reaction, so they may get better or worse depending on the environment and climate of his forever home.
Despite a muscular physique that would make gym rats jealous, this soft-hearted guy absolutely adores sturdy kids. We think it borders on an obsession, because when he hears the school bus pull up, he goes crazy hoping all of the kids will come in and play. While he is too rambunctious for little ones, he would be incredibly happy to share his home with one or more kids 6 years or older.
According to his former family he also likes dogs, but jumps and barks when meeting them. Some dogs seem to understand he wants to play, while others may see his behavior as threatening. His play style is rough and may be too much for laid-back dogs.
While Tubbs also loves visitors, his behavior when they first come in is downright embarrassing, and he will need further training on the proper way to greet people. For now he jumps on them, barks like a fool, and even gets mouthy with hands that may be trying to pet him. We suspect that formal training will help this behavior as well as build his confidence and bond with his new family.
This tub of joy is housebroken, but if he has not been out and he gets excited, he may dribble. Regular outings will help keep him on track. Using a crate has not been necessary or attempted during his time in foster care, but according to his former family crating caused some anxiety and made him dribble urine on occasion.
Ideally, Tubbs would like to join an active family that will consider him a part of the pack. He loves being outdoors, so a home with a fenced yard is preferred. While a home where someone could be home most of the day is preferred, he would do okay with working adults as long as he could get a midday break to go outside.
Now here’s a word from his foster mom:
Tubbs is a 'hunky' little guy, he's got the cut physique of an athlete and the skills to back up his look. He can climb fences and do distance jumps like a greyhound. Apparently no one told this boy that Frenchies can't do these things! Luckily, he is fairly mellow and will respond to a 'down' command if he's considering climbing the fence. He is active, but not frenetic. He does the cutest 'flying squirrel' imitation; if he is on the couch or bed and I roll by in my wheelchair he will leap onto my lap and look so pleased with himself.
If Tubbs sounds like a good fit, please fill out an application for him. He is being fostered in Massachusetts, and he will not be shipped.
