Truffle and Brulee are a delectable pair of former showdogs who were given up due to their owner's medical issues. Although their personalities couldn't be more different, they're bonded and must be adopted together. After all -- haven't you always wanted two desserts every night?
Brulee (male) is eight years old and is a trademark Frenchie goofball. Like the sweet treat he was named after, Brulee is mostly sugar and no one can resist him! Everyone he meets is his new best friend. He loves to jump up on folks, give them kisses, grab their hands, give them more kisses, and toss them his toys. He just can't stop himself from squeezing into the middle of any situation in the hope of some attention. Brulee's favorite thing in the world is a good back-rubbing on the couch. His new family are assured permanent smiles on their faces for every waking moment with this boy around. His foster mom says she wants to marry a man with Brulee's wonderful sense of humor and penchant for smooching.
Brulee does have some physical issues, but they only seem to heighten his zest for life. Apparently, at some point he jumped out of a tub and injured his back so severely that he couldn't walk for 3 months. A vet advised his owners to put him down, but with massage and exercise he regained mobility. On an x-ray, you can see that one of his vertebra is now half the size of the others, but there are relatively few outward clues that he's disabled. His back is somewhat stiff and weak, which his foster mom swears makes him walk just Charlie Chaplin. (This effect is heightened because he acts so much like the famous funny-man, as well...) He also can't lift his leg to pee, so his back feet need cleaning after walks. And it takes a small runway for him to poo, because he can't stay in the necessary position. So far while he has been with FBRN, Brulee has gotten his teeth cleaned and was fixed. He also had two cancerous tumors removed, but the margins were clear with no sign they'd spread. Brulee's spinal problems mean he'll need extra grooming and patience, but his happy-go-lucky attitude makes any extra time spent attending to him a pleasure. He needs someone to watch over him, both to make sure he abides by his limitations (which he ignores) and to make sure he gets outside regularly to do his business (which he sometimes also ignores).
Truffle (female) is a dignified older lass with a lovely brindle coat and reserved attitude. As her name suggests, Truffle saves her exquisitely sweet center for people who get to know her. She isn't much interested in toys, preferring to stay in her crate or bed to arrange it juuuuuuust so. She also isn't interested in other dogs, except Brulee, but tolerates them if they respect her rather wide boundaries. Despite her distinctly regal air (particular to mature frenchie ladies), Truffle does seem to want to please. She would like nothing better than to sit on the sofa and soak up massages and snuggles from her people. After a month in her foster home, Truffle has also started to reveal her playful side by occasionally inviting her foster mom to play gentle (and adorable) games of chase. For anyone who appreciates the wonderful qualities of a refined, elder, lovable frenchie, Truffle is the jackpot.
Truffle's physical ailments appear to be normal age-related woes. She probably has cataracts in both eyes, with no vision in her right eye, and gets medicated eye drops in both eyes twice a day. Her back legs are a little wobbly, but she gets around with no trouble. She had her teeth cleaned while in foster care and lost 10 of them, but can still eat just fine.
The needs of this pair are more dictated by Truffle than Brulee (who would be rapturously happy anywhere, anytime, with anyone). Truffle needs a quiet home with a regular schedule. The only dog she allows in her space is Brulee, so a home without other dogs would be preferred. Similarly, the excitement of dealing with younger kids would be too much to ask of her, and might be too much of a strain on Brulee physically. They need a home with just adults or maybe older, considerate children. The pair could be left alone for a few hours, but generally need someone who will be around most of the time or will take them along to a very subdued office. Neither Brulee nor Truffle need much exercise, so an apartment setting would be fine for them, as long as climbing no more than a few stairs is required.
Truffle and Brulee are exciting palates in Florida. They won't be shipped.
