Tinkerbell had everything she wanted in the world for the first three years of her life. Tragically, spinal surgery was not enough to help her regain the use of her rear legs after an injury. Her original owners worked 12 hours per day and were unable to take care of her while they were at work. They tearfully made the selfless decision to surrender Tinkerbell in order to give her a chance at a better life.
Tinkerbell’s rear legs are paralyzed. She has a wonderful wheeled cart that she uses to get around outside. Inside, she scoots around easily without it. She can poop on her own but needs to have her urine expressed. (It’s really easy to do! Watch this video and talk to your vet about how easy it is to do for yourself.) She wears a diaper in the house which must be changed regularly. We expect that Tinkerbell will always be prone to urinary tract infections due to her paralysis in her hind legs and the inability to completely empty her bladder. The good new is, other than her paralysis-related issues, Tink is quite healthy.
She also gets along with everyone! Dogs, cats and kids are all welcome at Tinkerbell’s house. Her foster mom says, “She is a character, always has me smiling or laughing at her. She goes with the flow, doesn't seem to start anything, really, except when she wants to play, she will see who she can get to play with her. Usually my almost three year old male, who is always happy to oblige. She is a very tenderhearted little girl. She came from a home where it was just her and her two dads. Here she has four other frogs to play with. She will hide when it gets too loud. She doesn't like confusion. She will hide her head under the couch, with her butt sticking out. SO cute!”
Because of her diapers, a work at home or office dog situation will be best for Tinkerbell. She could stay at home if she could get a couple of potty breaks with someone who could change her diaper and express her bladder. In the house, she will obviously need to be carried up and down stairs, so either a one level house or a human elevator will be required.
Tinkerbell loves to play! Her foster mom says that she is a pure joy to have around. What else can she tell us about Tink? “Oh my gosh, where do I begin? Tink is the most wonderful foster girl who gets along with everyone and everything. She never has a bad day, is always extremely happy to see her people, loves to play, loves to snuggle and be loved on. She is a joy to have. She has taken to her cart like a fish to water. She loves to be able to zoom around outside and run with the other dogs. She jumps and plays with them just like an able-bodied frog. When in the house, she is out of her cart and scurries all over the place. She loves to play hide and seek with me, dashing behind the couch, only to peek out the end to see where I am. She is tenderhearted and very quiet, sweet and gentle. She really is a perfect little girl. The fact that her hind legs do not carry her around anymore, is not an issue. She gets along just fine without them.”
Tinkerbell is waiting for magic to happen all over again. If you can make her dreams come true, plan on picking her up from her loving foster family in Virginia.
FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo. Except in rare or unusual cases, adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. In rare or unusual cases, FBRN may be able to assist in transporting a dog to a volunteer near the adopter's home, but the expense of transporting the dog must be the responsibility of the adopting party.
