Thor is a guy’s guy looking for a home where he can be someone’s buddy, pal, and old sport. Although he’s a very mellow dog, he needs to be under the direct leadership of a confident owner in a home that preferably includes a male figure as part of his daily interaction.
At five years old, Thor is by all veterinary accounts a rather healthy Frenchie. He was surrendered to FBRN when his owner could no longer commit to caring for him.
We know very little about Thor’s former life, but when he moved into his first foster home, he acted out and nipped at people. Although he never broke skin, Thor was moved to a more experienced foster home. Since arriving at his final foster home, Thor has been an angel.
Interacting with a confident male on a daily basis seems to have made a world of difference for Thor, and he has shown himself to be a rather calm, very good boy. He enjoys women too, and adores his foster mom, but if he had to choose between the two of them, he would hands down pick his foster dad.
This big hunk of love would do well with either a family that includes a male, and/or with a single male. He is a big guy and can play rough, so any children in the household should be at least 10 years old. Thor appreciates the company of other dogs, but he is not playful with them, he simply likes to hang out with them.
Any potential adopter should feel confident handling and reading dogs. Thor has at times been misunderstood because he never quite learned to exhibit common signs of stress or even happiness that other dogs exhibit so naturally. However, he has recently started wagging his tail to express his joy, so we know with continued positive experiences he will continue improving.
This gentleman has proven that is he completely housebroken, and while he will willingly go into a crate, it’s not his favorite place in the world. He’s fine for a bit while crated, but after a while gets bored and will chew on his bedding. He needs Kongs and Nylabones to pass the time, but ideally he wouldn’t have to be crated for long periods of time in his new home. He has also learned come, sit, and wait from his foster parents and would benefit from further obedience training.
This big boy enjoys the simple things in life like napping, chasing butterflies in the yard, and standing by for ear scratches and belly rubs from his people. He would do just fine in a single family home, condo, or apartment as long as he there is a fenced yard to sun himself and chase after those ever elusive butterflies.
If you feel your home and situation might be the right match for Thor, please apply for him. Be ready to take a trip to North Florida because he will not be shipped.
