Good things come in small packages and little Miss Tchotchke is no exception! Surrendered to an animal shelter when her allergies became too much for her owners to handle, we were happy to swoop in and carry her to safety.

This little miss still has allergies, but she's so much better now!. At this time it's easy: a pill, a medicated bath once or twice a week, a little soaking of her paws. She did have a very elongated palate, but that has been surgically corrected along with her nares, and her upper respiratory tract is now healthy and she can breathe freely. She's still a very noisy Frenchie, however - and she always lets you know where she is by her funny honks, grunts, and groans.

Tchotchke is housebroken and sleeps in a crate at night, although she really doesn't have to because she's a great cuddler! She'll also go in her crate just to have a lie down when she's tired, although she also has a little cushy bed that she loves. Sometimes she simply sits in front of her crate, the better to survey her domain and ensure no interlopers make any attempts to lie on her soft crate cushion.

Tchotchke likes certain other dogs – size and gender do seem to be a factor. She has exhibited some aggressive behavior by lunging and barking at other dogs – usually larger dogs and female dogs. She is a typical alpha Frenchie girl who likes to rule the roost so she should only be placed with submissive, small dogs. A submissive female might be okay; she lives with one in her foster home.

Tchotchke loves Nylabones! She works one into the corner of her mouth and gnaws away with a nice rhythm. She also loves being near people, and if you're sitting down she will stand up on her hind legs to be picked up so she can sit on a comfy lap. Ditto for being picked up to go on a couch, especially if a person or another dog is already there.

The most important consideration for Tchotchke’s forever home is the understanding that she may always need some intervention for her allergies. Right now her allergies are under control with diligent care; if that isn't continued her health will deteriorate and she will be miserable once again -- scratching the fur off the backs of her legs and her little nub of a tail. She had been so miserable! A good veterinarian familiar with her condition is also a must.

An adopter experienced with Frenchies or other alpha dogs would be ideal for this little dominatrix. We're not sure she would do well in a home with small kids, since she has huge eyes which little fingers might poke by mistake, but older children would be fine.

She could very well be a treasured Tchotchke - a companion to a single person or couple. She would enjoy the company and playfulness of a small submissive dog or two, as she has in her foster home. A dog-savvy kitty to lie near might be nice too!

Tchotchke is not an outdoor dog and should not be outdoors much because of her allergies. This is not the dog to forage for truffles or leap into leaf piles. She walks well on a lead, and she enjoys a short daily walk. She enjoys wandering around on the grass, but always comes back into the house when her people come in.

She would be fine in an apartment, but she might need encouragement not to bark at the neighbors' dogs in an elevator or other close quarters. Fortunately, she's an easy little thing to carry until the coast is clear.

Tchotchke would love someone who is home during the day. That is what she's used to. She would also enjoy having another dog at home with her, probably a male, someone she could play with and keep an eye on.

This little people person adores riding in the car, and would be thrilled to go to an office or other place of business. She just needs a cozy bed to lie on in a warm place, and an assortment of Nylabones to chew. Her cacophony of sounds would keep the office staff smiling!

A few words from Tchotchke’s foster mom, “Although she came to us straight from the hospital that restored her health, little Tchotchke is now ready to be a treasured and unique family member. She is a source of joy to us every day.
She is not the kind of Tchotchke you put in a curio cabinet to admire; she is one to enjoy hands on. As she continues to feel better, more little quirky behaviors emerge. When she first met our dog-loving cat, she went right up to him and pushed her face directly into his, took a good sniff, and waddled away. They became fast friends. Our other cat is not as sure about her, so Tchotchke play bows or plays chase a bit when the mood strikes.
At bath time she watches carefully as I put the little space heater on the counter near the sink (she's sensitive to the cold), and get her medicated shampoo, cream rinse and towels - and when I turn around to get her she has disappeared. A little peanut butter lure fishes her out of her crate, a little more dabbed on the side of the sink keeps her in the "tub" (she's so small she fits in the kitchen sink perfectly), and then it's out of the sink and time to race around like crazy.

Tchotchke's sounds are the stuff of legend: Apparently when the Frenchie factory created her they had to cram her amazing personality, huge eyes, and so much other cuteness into her small body that they had no room left for the muffler! The result? A frog dog who honks like a goose!”

Irresistible charm and an adorable face all in a pretty little petite package! If you’ve fallen in love with Tchotchke, please apply for her today. She’ll be in the kitchen making rugelachs in Northern New Jersey while she waits for her perfect forever home.

FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo. Except in rare or unusual cases, adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. In rare or unusual cases, FBRN may be able to assist in transporting a dog to a volunteer near the adopter's home, but the expense of transporting the dog must be the responsibility of the adopting party.
