Tater Tot has a bite history.

Tater Tot has been doing wonderfully in foster care, and he is ready now to look for his forever home! Tater Tot was a stray before being brought to the animal shelter, where he stayed for three weeks before they contacted FBRN to help in his rehoming process.

Tater Tot has no ongoing health concerns—he is one healthy frog!

Tater Tot loves the children in his foster home—ages 2, 10, and 12. Although he has shown great behavior with the kiddies, he did have a biting incident, and this reactive response means that he is best suited to a home without kids. The dog-savvy 12 year-old had Tater on his back, tickling his ribs. Suddenly Tater bit and shook the boy’s hand, drawing blood (though it did not require a doctor’s visit). He had one other biting incident while in his foster home, when his foster mama went to move him off the couch while he was napping. He growled and snapped/nipped at her hand, and no blood was drawn. Tater Tot’s foster mama has observed his people guarding issues—it appears that Tater fears for his people’s safety when playtime turns into a bit of roughhousing. Tater Tot has shown no aggression with food or toys. Although Tater is fantastic with people most of the time, these biting incidents indicate that he should not be placed in a home with children—a precaution that is necessary for everyone’s safety.

As far as other dogs, Tater reacts towards other dogs in an unknown environment. He has barked, lunged, and growled towards other dogs. In a one-on-one situation, Tater Tot warmed up and engaged in playtime with another pooch. If Tater Tot’s forever home has another dog, his new owners must engage in slow introductions on neutral ground. And no kitties for Tater Tot—he enjoys chasing the resident cat. Tater Tot’s guarding issues suggest that he would make a great candidate for training with an experienced dog behaviourist. It would likely boost this boy’s confidence, and be a great opportunity for him to bond with his new owner(s)!

Tater Tot is a very active Frenchie, one that enjoys walks and short runs with his person! Errands to run? Tater Tot loves to ride in the car and accompany you places.

Tater Tot needs some help with his house training, and a regular walking/potty break schedule should address this problem. Tater Tot sleeps fine in his crate, but he much rather prefers to sleep in the bed with his person or people!

Besides being the consummate cuddle bug and companion, Tater Tot likes to play tug with his rope, fetch the tennis ball, and destroy his stuffies with gusto!

First-time French bulldog owners would be fine for Tater, as he does not have allergies, back issues, and visible breathing problems typical with this breed. Still, all French bulldog owners know that a bad back can be just one bad jump away! If his new owner(s) haven’t had a Frenchie before, they should plan on reading up on their common health problems, so as to be fully informed of the problems that may emerge, and have a plan in place on how to care for Tater Tot in the event that he experiences any of these problems. Preference will be given to families with a background in managing uppity dogs.

Tater definitely needs a secure fenced in yard to be able to run around in. He is a runner, and given his history of roaming, he needs extra double-protection to ensure his safety!

While Tater Tot would love to join a home with someone who is home all day, he would do fine with a mid-day potty break. Or better yet, he’d make a great office companion, provided that the same precautions be used to prevent him from roaming. No open exterior door for this little escape artist!

Tater Tot’s foster mama has this to say about him:
“Tater Tot is a great dog! If you like a dog that likes to cuddle and to be by your side all the time, then Tater is definitely the dog for you. He is in great health and is a low maintenance dog. Tater loves to ride in the car and just be part of the family. I will be very sad to see him go so if you don't like to see a girl cry then no need to apply, lol. I hope his forever home agrees to keep in touch with me and to send along pictures on a regular basis (especially for the first few months).”

Tater Tot can't wait to meet you--so if you think your home would be a great one for Tater Tot, tell us why in your application. Tater Tot is located in Northern Georgia, near a number of major freeway routes.

FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo. Except in rare or unusual cases, adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. In rare or unusual cases, FBRN may be able to assist in transporting a dog to a volunteer near the adopter's home, but the expense of transporting the dog must be the responsibility of the adopting party.
