Spangles asks for so little, yet gives so much back. She offers a return on investment that you won't find anywhere else right now.

This mature lady of 9 was surrendered by an owner who was gone from home for long stretches of the day, and did not have time to devote to Spangles' care. Spangles is heartworm positive, but due to her age and the damage it's already caused her heart, she would not tolerate aggressive treatment. She takes medications daily to prevent further problems, but Sssshhh! Don't tell her. The meds come wrapped in cheese, so she's convinced they are a treat. Spangles also has benign growths around her mouth that can be contagious to other dogs, but not to people or other types of pets. The vet said that these growths are not dangerous, and resolve by themselves over time.

Spangles' manageable chronic medical issues are the risk. Now here's the reward: Spangles lives to love. She enjoys playing with other dogs. She's gentle and affectionate with children. She ignores cats. She's crate-trained. She's never had an accident in her foster home. She only asks that you adore her, which isn't difficult to do. If she's napping near her people, she's content.

As is common with female bullies, Spangles can be bossy when meeting new dogs, but as long as she is on leash and receives a verbal correction, she calms down within minutes. She lives with four foster canine siblings ranging from 19 to 65 pounds, and she holds her own when playing with each.

Spangles' foster mom says she "is a true joy to have in my home, and is one of the easiest dogs I have ever fostered." She adds:

"As long as she receives her medication, Spangles is very spunky for a 9-year-old lady. Her ideal home would have one or two tolerant dogs to play with, and someone who is home at least part of the time or can offer her a potty break during the day. She cannot spend extended hours in her crate, as one of her medications causes more frequent than average urination, although it is not excessive.

Spangles is not demanding and is a fantastic dog. People are drawn to her, and she loves their attention. She could happily live with well-mannered small children, or an older person. She is quiet and rarely barks.

Spangles would love to live out her golden years in a fairly calm home that can offer her lots of time and attention. Her new family must be committed to continuing her heart medication, and realize that she cannot handle strenuous exercise or spend much time in extreme heat—just a potty break outside, then back in the a/c!

She is a delight, and has a gentle, wise soul that twinkles behind her devoted gaze. She deserves to be treated like the benevolent queen that she is."

Spangles doesn't need her owner to have a kingdom of riches. She'll love you no matter what your Roth's value is. All she requires is love, attention, her medication and a comfy place to nap. Just remember to stash some cash for gas money, because Spangles is located in Texas and won't be shipped.
