Raise your glass to Smithwick, the young’un who is ready to graduate from FBRN to his forever home! Smithwick (or Smitty) came to FBRN when his previous owner’s new job required her to travel too much to properly care for him. Smithwick’s foster family has enjoyed his company immensely and calls the boy “fantastic”! And indeed he is!

Smithwick loves other dogs and plays very nicely with them. He’s a bit ball obsessed and needs a home where someone wants to play fetch with him. When he's not busy playing with the other dogs, fetching balls or trying to get at a ball he sees under the couch, he wants to snuggle and snooze with people. In fact, Smitty is the first one in and the last one out of bed every day! (Smart dog!) He has chased the resident cat, but just for fun; he is all play with absolutely no vicious intent. Smithwick believes in the good life and his perfect day would be: Fetch, sleep, get belly rubs, fetch, fetch, sleep, get belly rubs, fetch…

Besides loving to play with the other dogs, Smithwick loves kids too. He plays nice with the two year-old child in his foster home, though he can get easily excited. Of course, kids and dogs should always be supervised, and his foster mom keeps a watchful eye to make sure Smithwick doesn’t go overboard! He’d love an active kid or two in his forever home.

Smithwick’s foster mom thought she saw a little cherry eye one night, but then it suddenly disappeared. His adoptive family should monitor his eyes, and also be aware that he might experience cherry eye in the future, and if so, would (most likely) need surgery to have it fixed. Otherwise, Smitty is in great health.

Smithwick is perfectly housetrained! And crate-trained too. He hasn’t had any formal obedience training, but his foster family has worked with him on some commands such as sit, down, wait, and leave it. He has shown no temperament issues in his foster home. Smithwick would really enjoy the challenge of an obedience class, which would give him the chance to bond with you and socialize with other people and dogs alike!

Smithwick would be a fine dog for first-time Frenchie owners, as long as they are aware of and are prepared for some common Frenchie problems, such as overheating. But Smithwick must have active people who love to play as much as he does! Smithwick is very social and enjoys human and animal company. He's very non-confrontational around bossy dogs and plays beautifully with puppies. Smithwick would likely fit in with just about any lifestyle and family.

It’s not necessary that someone is home with Smithwick all day, but he will need a mid-day walk and wee break while you are gone. Smithwick currently gets a mid-day walk from the dog walker in his foster home, and does just fine. Smithwick could easily adjust to going to an office with someone and would bring much of his good cheer to the workplace.

Smithwick loves to play fetch so much that his own fenced backyard would be preferable, but if his people lived very close to a dog park for daily walks and play that would probably be fine too.

Smithwick’s foster mom has this to say about him:

“Smitty is the most delightful dog I've seen in a long time, and deserves the perfect family for him – I would love to see a family that gives him lots of play time and activities to be involved in (agility or flyball would be great!), lots of fetch time and a soft warm bed to snuggle up in. He's seriously a dreamboat and could fit in almost anywhere with almost anyone, but he's such a social butterfly I would like there to be lots of people, kids and friends for him to enjoy. He's just a perfect pooch!”

Smithwick is fetching balls, keeping company with the two year-old, and snuggling up with his foster family. He would happily join you for a car ride home or even an airplane ride, but he will not be shipped.
