Sidney came to us as a sad case, neglected, moth-eaten, nervous and itchy. She was a breeder who'd lived in a filthy crate atop her own waste and was chewing herself bald from untreated allergies. Today, her coat is nearly all grown in, she enjoys healthy food and though she still has some quirks where new people are concerned, she is more and more resembling the lovely little Frenchie she should always have been.

Sidney gets along all right with most everyone, though she takes issue with some people and will reject them and bark. Though she was fine with the 5, 13 and 14 year old children in her foster home, she barked for 6 weeks at the 16 year old girl. She's reconciled to her existence now, but new people are perceived as dangers, and we are looking for a patient family with an understanding nature to work with her.

She would enjoy another dog to mother and boss around and cuddle with. She gets along with the English bulldog in her foster home, but that's the upper end, size-wise, of her comfort level. She won't be placed in a home with a rolicking, high-energy dog. A mellow, confident dog who'll help her chill out some would be ideal.

Sidney is very smart. She wants very much to be loved and she wants to please her humans. She will follow her people around the house and likes to cuddle on the sofa. Sidney likes to lay in the sun, so a back yard is preferred. She enjoys walks around the neighborhood, but does go a little crazy when she sees other big dogs. Her favorite things are her stuffed squeakies and her big, soft bed.

Sidney's ongoing medical concerns include managing her allergies and thyroid. Sidney's fur is still growing in. She has some areas where the fur is still coming in- around her eyes, her paws and her tail. She takes thyroid pills and Hydroxyzine for her allergies. She is also on prescription fish and potato canned food, with additional salmon oil. She eats 2 cans a day. It is hard to keep weight on her. Sidney LOVES to eat fresh greens. Her foster mom cuts up mustard greens, collards, and even lettuce and adds it to her canned food. Sidney enjoys fresh apples for snacks and baked or steamed fish as an afternoon snack. Also Sidney needs to be bathed once a week with a special shampoo.

Sidney has been trained to use wee wee pads, because her foster family's yard has been under construction. She will need to be trained to use the outside. She did go out the doggie door prior to construction. She is smart and willing to learn, what she needs are people who will be patient, kind and willing to train Sid. She hasn't had any obedience training. Our preference is that Sidney go to a quiet home without much people traffic. Sidney is especially leery of new children, and will bark and growl, so we worry that people won't understand and will either try to force themselves on her to prove they are good people, or be afraid of her. Her family must be willing to protect her from well-intentioned but uninformed guests.

Our preference is for a person who stays home or who can come home at mid-day. A dog walker is not ideal, as Sidney doesn't do well with strangers. She's not a good candidate for a busy office setting, obviously.

We require a fenced yard for Sidney.

Here are some final words from Sidney's foster mom about this sweet, brainy frog: Sidney is the smartest Frenchie I have had in my home. She is very loving once she trusts her people. It took her a while to adjust, but once she did, she became super loving and affectionate. I really want Sidneys new people to love her and spoil her and give her the life she deserves, especially since she her past was devoid of love and care. Her new family will also need to understand that Sidney is uncomfortable around new people that come into her home. She is fine meeting strangers on walks and going out to the pet store or the vets, as long as she is with her human. Sidney will need to be bathed at home, it would be devastating for her to be left at a groomers. I give her a bath in the tub, and I have a groomer come over to trim her nails while I hold her. Also- she can not go to a boarding facility. If you travel, Sidney will need to go with you by car. She enjoys car rides. Please understand that Sidney's people are her whole world, they mean everything to her. If you have lots of love to give, then Sidney will find you worthy of being her new family.
