Shadow is such a love-pup that he has earned his named by shadowing his people through the house, always in mellow hope that there'll be a little time for a pat or a smooch.

Shadow was surrendered by his previous owner for fighting with the other dogs in the house. The situation was in so dire that Shadow had become an outside dog. Now that he is warm and clean in the house, he is happy, healthy and looking for a forever home and people who love his laid-back ways.

Despite his surrender story, Shadow seems to do well with other non-aggressive dogs after slow introductions. He'll play with them and run after them, but then gives up. He could do well living with another submissive dog, especially a female. But he would be happiest as an only pet. Since Shadow has not been exposed to cats, we will not place him in a feline household.

Shadow is a loafer, but can be active if you want him to be. He doesn’t usually play with toys, but prefers to chew on his bone or a treat-dispensing ball. He is laid back, only needs two walks per day (around the block is enough.) He would do fine in any sort of family situation: young or mature, apartment or house, city or country. As long as he is hanging out with you, he’ll be happy.

Shadow has had a tough time in the potty training department. His accidents seem to be related to anxiety when his people are gone, especially in the evenings. He also pees when he is excited, like when he first sees you at the end of the day. He has good days and bad days in this department. Someone who is home all day would be the best match for him since he could keep working on his potty training. But a mid-day break or an office with a tiled floor could also work for him. Shadow knows a few commands like “Sit”, “Stay” and “Up”. He also sleeps in his crate at night.

Shadow’s foster mom thinks he is great! “Shadow is a very sweet boy. I'm going to be sad to see him go. He loves being around my husband and I, and sadly he follows my every move. I'd like Shadow to go to a home where he can find independence through baby steps as I don't feel that following someone around the home is healthy. He is a good boy, in that you can leave the door open and he will walk out, but know to come right back in. If you call him, he'll come. (I still use his original name, Boogie, in the house.) He's a good looking dog, and is often complimented on his statuesque look. It hurts my heart to know that someone had this little boy in their backyard because all he wants to do is be loved, and sleep in a warm spot. Especially if there is a blanket close by that he can steal. :)”

Shadow is stealing blankets and hearts in California. FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo. Except in rare or unusual cases, adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. In rare or unusual cases, FBRN may be able to assist in transporting a dog to a volunteer near the adopter's home, but the expense of transporting the dog must be the responsibility of the adopting party.
