Update 10/8/09

Roxy recently had a series of serious seizures. She is doing very well now but is a bit fuzzy on the meds, and the specialist said we should wait 4 weeks to seek applicants for her. Come back in early November!

Roxy the wonder dog is ready to find her forever home! Surrendered to FBRN because her previous owner couldn’t help her get the hang of potty training, Roxy was put out in the yard so she wouldn’t have accidents. Thankfully, she was given to FBRN so we could work with her on understanding where she should and should not tinkle. It is still a work in progress, but she is indeed making some progress. Any applicants should be aware that she is still not completely housebroken, and it will take time, compassion, and patience to help her get to 100%.

Roxy has a seizure disorder and recently had a serious bout of cluster seizures while in foster care. She is doing well now, and we are waiting to see how she does over time on her medications before placing her in her forever home.

Roxy is a total love bug, and she thinks everyone she meets pretty much rocks. She loves dogs of all sizes, LOVES people, and truly thinks kiddos are the bomb. The little ones might need to guard their treats because Roxy is not above snatching a tasty snack from a toddler. Kids who know the wily ways of opportunistic pooches would be best. She acts submissively to her grumpy canine foster sibling and has never shown any aggression at all. Roxy does love her food though, so it might be best to separate for feeding since she thinks it’s a race and would be happy to help out if anyone else hasn’t finished dinner by the time she has.

Roxy has lived most of her life in a crate or in a pen in the yard due to her potty issues, so we think it would be swell if she didn’t have to be crated much for the rest of her life. She knows several obedience commands, but she does not reliably come when called. Perhaps a little refresher obedience class would do wonders? Roxy’s favorite things to do usually involve food, so her food motivation would probably make training even easier. She also enjoys a good game of tug, and will bring the ball back to you as many times as you’d like to throw it.

Roxy’s ideal home would have someone who could stay with her all day, both because of her meds and to continue work on housebreaking with consistency. A home with another dog is a must! This lovely lady could share a home with just about anyone or anything. A doggy-door would be great to help her work on her potty manners! A fenced yard would be tops, but as long as she has another dog to play with, she’d do fine in an apartment with some good walks every day. She would love to go to work with you!

Here’s what Roxy’s foster mom has to say about her: "I hope that Roxy finds a forever home willing to overlook her medical condition. She is the sweetest Frenchie you’ll ever want to meet. I have had two dogs with seizure disorders. One of them lived to the ripe old age of 13 with almost no issues. Roxy deserves a chance at a wonderful family life. She is very companionable with people and animals alike. She is on the quiet side and never fusses about things that might turn her world upside down. I think she would make a great travel companion for a couple who likes to go places.”

Roxy is waiting for the perfect home to give her love and be absolutely committed to her for life. If that’s you, put in an application now and start thinking about your trip to Ohio. Roxy will not be shipped.
