Tiny Rosebud came to us from a Good Samaritan who sprung her from a breeding operation. She arrived with a host of physical issues and several C-section scars (though we don't believe any of her pups could have survived). Rosebud is dark brindle with a petal pink tongue that perpetually sticks out. She is adorable.
Some of Rosebud's ailments have cleared up or are under control, while others are permanent. She has a congenital spine deformity. The vets determined that Rosebud is too delicate to withstand most surgeries so we had to pass by those that would have been performed on a more robust dog. These include spay surgery and surgery to correct patellas and hips, and her herniated belly button. She was able to have her elongated palate corrected and breathes easier now. Rosebud has a sensitive throat and allergies, which are now under control. She eats a special diet. She came with an untreated old wound in her right eye, now healed. Her skin is in good shape and she is ready to go to the right family who can respect her physical limitations and accept her for who she is -- a delicate flower.
Rosebud gets around a little awkwardly due to her deformity, and movement is uncomfortable for her so she tends to like to stay put. But get around she does, including going outside to do her business, as long as she gets consistent schedules and reminders. She is crate trained as well.
Rosebud "acts" like she is listening to you but she really isn't, the minx, so she doesn't do much of anything she doesn't feel like doing. "La-di-da, La-di-dah" is what Rosebud says. "Obedience is for dogs possessed of lesser cuteness." You know the look -- all innocence and eyelash batting. Hmmm. Fortunately she is charming and sweet and laid back, so letting her do what she wants isn't much of a sacrifice!
We don't know how she is with those of the kitty persuasion, but Rosebud loves dogs. She does get possessive of her food dish though, and protects it from other dogs. Also, she is not above trying to drive the other dogs away from their bowls, the greedy snipe. Rosebud will stand her ground with other dogs with absolutely no way to defend herself, so any other dogs in her household must be gentle and patient. It also makes sense to feed her separately. In all other ways she is lovable with her dog mates. She enjoys grooming them and being groomed, and curling up for lovely dogpile naps. With her foster siblings she is submissive to her foster brother and dominant to her sister sibling (both frenchies) so she is right in the middle of the pack. She is laid back, and prefers to chill out and cuddle with her people or her dogs rather than try and run around. Her favorite toy is a small Nylabone which she prefers to chew on when a person has hold of the other end.Rosebud needs a quiet home life. It would be wonderful if there were another gentle dog or two to keep her company. She would be happy with adults or a mix of adults and one or two quiet children. She needs patient and consistent caregivers. It would be fantastic if Rosebud had a work from home person, or if she could go to work with her people. She really loves attention and her quiet ways are well suited to an office. If her people are away during the day we would prefer a dog buddy for her and a break during the day.
Apartments, houses, and yurts are all fine options for Rosebud. We prefer a fenced yard, naturally, but in any case she must never be left in a yard alone as she is vulnerable. Rosebud would not be a good candidate for the roughhousing of a dog park.
Some final words from Rosebud's foster mom:
Rosebud is a sweet attention-seeking little girl who doesn't know that she has anything slowing her down. She is not the quickest wit in the household, but is good natured and liked by everyone. She loves to cuddle in a ball with her dog buddies and her humans. She will try to play with other dogs. This needs to be closely monitored so she is not hurt. She is a very special tiny frog and deserves a loving home light years away from the rigors of the breeding operation of her former life.
Rosebud is batting her eyelashes in Southern California. She would like you to pick her up in person and we wouldn't have it any other way!
