Ringo has a bite history.
Watch out Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood, Ringo Frog is about to debut his act! Tickets will be hard to come by. We know that the general public will find him as talented and endearing as FBRN does.
Ringo is a handsome 4 year old boy with a big personality to match his showbiz name. Like any infamous star of immense popularity, Ringo has his own quirks. However, he is no diva requiring chilled bottled water and pink M&M’s only!
Ringo has had a long and winding road, and really needs to find that special someone who understands his needs and will not be intimidated by his rock star personality. In his previous life, Ringo spent way too much time alone because his owner traveled a lot. His anxiety got the best of him and he tried to bite one of the people watching out for him. A foster home with boot camp rules and a good director was found for Ringo. He has thrived there, while working through his issues in the FBRN version of “Celebrity Rehab”. His perfect forever person will have a strong director’s personality and French bulldog experience.
Ringo cannot be placed with children. Due to his rough start, he has anxiety issues which result in unpredictable behavior with strangers. In the interest of safety for everyone and due to his history, Ringo will not be placed in a home with children. Ditto cats -- he cannot be in a home with cats.
The same goes for strange dogs. He can get wound up if he hears a dog barking for an excessive length of time. He bit a strange dog once, but this was early on in foster care. Despite his demonstrated ability to form a friendly relationship with another dog while in foster care, Ringo should be the only dog in his new home until he develops a safe, trusting relationship with his person. Even then, his entourage of canine friends should only include submissive dogs of his own size. Our star does not mind sharing with another canine, but it has to be with the right dog.
Despite his quirks, Ringo has a smart, joyous, side to his personality and would be a wonderful companion for the right person. Staying in shape for performances, he loves to chase balls and leap high in the air with flair to catch them. His foster mom describes his routine: “He can contort himself in mid-air like a champion Frisbee dog, flipping his butt and catching (or trying to catch) balls over his shoulder. He prefers squeaky tennis balls and soft, stuffed balls, as they are easier for him to catch. He will dive face first into a big fluffy dog bed when playing. He’s very comical and entertaining!”
He winds down easily and can entertain himself for some time with a Nylabone. Positive reinforcement is essential to this frog, he loves to be told he is loved and shows it with his jaunty little swagger and happy butt wiggle. While Ringo may appear dominant, he really isn’t and his anxiety is much improved when his person is clearly in charge. Ringo is very smart and knows some obedience, but usually only performs for a reward (such a star!) and would do well with further training if handled the correct way.
He doesn’t necessarily need someone home all day, but Ringo does need a person who will not leave him alone for extended periods of time. He does not do well in a crate, barking with anxiety. Also, without a regular potty schedule, he will mark. He does not want to go to work every day with his person, and really - what true rock star would? A fenced yard is always preferable, but is not required for Ringo.
Ringo has chronic allergies and his forever home will have to be vigilant in watching for the subtle signs that indicate the beginning of a skin infection. These episodes require an inexpensive antibiotic. Like any star he enjoys spa treatments, and medicated baths go a long way in reducing his chances of flare-ups. He had his soft palate resected in January of 2008. Though he is still a loud breather, he doesn’t have any other complications
This is what Ringo's foster mom sees as Ringo’s ideal home: “Ringo should ideally go to a home with a single, bully experienced owner who knows how to build a trusting relationship. A vet, vet tech or other veterinary or training professional would be ideal. He needs to have a forever home without cats or children, and there should also be no other dogs, at least at first. He could potentially be introduced to a submissive dog of similar size and sturdiness AFTER he has developed a trusting relationship with his forever person. His forever person should be prepared for an initial period of positive interactions (Ringo says “hopefully including delicious bribery!”) to build trust.
Ringo is a very special little guy. He’s drop-dead gorgeous, smart, athletic and comical. He is a wonderful companion and an excellent roommate. Once he bonds to his person, he is completely trustworthy with them. I can take bones or other items that he does NOT want to give up right out of his mouth. He would LOVE to sleep in the people bed, if you could tolerate his snoring. He eats a high quality grain-free food (although his allergies do not seem to be food related) in order to keep his skin in the best condition possible, and gets one fatty acid supplement capsule a day. His temperament issues most likely arose from being alone most of the time, so his forever person must be able to spend lots of time palling around with him, throwing his balls and taking nice long walks. Once you have won over his trust and respect, Ringo will be a loyal, fun companion for years to come!”
If you feel you are up to the challenge of managing this pop star and providing him with strawberry fields forever, he is waiting in Georgia. You will have to arrange ground transportation suitable to this star (limos, etc.) as he will not be shipped.
