Richard is a hardy and handsome three year old Frenchie. He is a completely adorable, people-oriented, goofy and charming redheaded boy. He was surrendered due to aggression towards other animals (dogs, goat, and horses, if you want to know the heads and tails of it!) Fortunately, there is one species he DOES like. The human species! If you are looking for a Frenchie and can provide an "only pet" situation, read on! Richard could be your boy.
A beautiful black-masked fawn, Richard appears to be the picture of health, and with the exception of a minor ear issue that is being addressed in foster care, he is. He is housetrained and crate trained (well he will whine and complain a bit, but quiets down when corrected.) He doesn’t appear to have much obedience training, but would probably enjoy learning. He does know “Sit.”
Richard’s bugaboo is his absolute intolerance of all other four-legged creatures. There is no getting around it. He will need to be in a home where this is understood. He needs a good fenced yard to play in as he will not be able to go to dog parks or on casual walks where other dogs are around. He cannot be trusted around cats, dogs, birds, horses, goats, emus, antelope or manatees! He has and will bite another animal in an effort to banish it from the earth.
As long as he is around people and no other animals, Richard is a mellow and affable guy. He loves adults. His previous owners said he loves kids too, but due to his animal aggression we will not place him in a home with young kids. Older, dog-savvy kids would be fine. During his leisure time Richard enjoys playing with his Nylabone and he is crazy about stuffy toys. Truth be told though, his absolute favorite activity is lounging with his people. If you would like a pal to join you on the couch for a little TV watching, Richard is THERE!
What would be Richard’s perfect home? A home with no other pets, first and foremost. A home with adults only or adults and older, dog-savvy kids. Richard would be okay for a first time Frenchie owner, but not a first time dog owner. His forever people should be experienced with dominant and aggressive dogs to keep Richard in line and out of trouble. He will be happiest that way, and so will his family. Richard does fine with midday breaks if his people are away at work, but he would dearly love to have someone at home, of course! He loves his people. He is probably not a great “take to work” type dog, unless the workplace is 100% animal free. If his people couldn’t make it home midday to spell him, he would be happy to have a dog sitter/walker to come and relieve him and romp a bit in the yard with him.
A few words from Richard’s besotted foster mom: “Richard is truly a love and will make a rainbow out of any rainy day. He loves to snuggle into you and just hang out. He will be an awesome companion for someone who recognizes and is equipped to deal with his animal aggression issues.”
Richard is watching the NCAA tournament in North Dakota and he says it’s not over till it’s over. If you’d like to adopt him, you’ll need to come out there in person and pry him off the couch!
