Preston is as cute as they come and looking for a forever home for the holidays. He was surrendered to FBRN by his previous owners due to his allergies. They had taken him to see a dermatologist and found that he is allergic to pretty much everything! To make matters worse, Preston does NOT like having his ears cleaned and medicated and he hates having his nails trimmed. The good news is that Preston doesn't mind taking pills and getting baths! Frequent baths with medicated shampoo and special diets are essential for keeping allergies under control.

Preston needs allergy shots every ten days, as well as a pill daily. Frequent bathing and bed washing will help him live his best life, as Oprah might say. His allergies are currently improving and seem to be well controlled, but his forever home must be committed and willing to continue with these treatments.

Preston is a sweet dog who acts and looks much younger. His favorite things to do are chew on Nylabones, roll on his back, cuddle and eat…Preston loves food! He also enjoys car rides and is great in the car. Preston is extremely curious and smart, but he is also quite willful and needs a patient and firm owner to enforce rules.

Preston should not be adopted by a family with children. Supervised visits with kids are ok and he likes children, but can get nippy as a result of being uncomfortable with his allergies. If a young child were to pull on his sensitive ears, for example, he may nip to try and protect himself. Toddlers and kids under 4 would probably be best separated entirely from Preston. Dog-savvy kids over 8 should be fine!

Preston likes to play with other dogs and cats, but he tends to think of all animals his size or smaller as a potential romantic partner. Preston is well leash trained and understands that outside is for leashes only. He is perfectly house-broken and crate trained, but has not had any formal obedience training. We think that would be a great way for him to bond with his new forever person!

Preston doesn’t have aggression issues, but he is emotionally scarred from having severely painful allergies all of his life. These emotions can present themselves in the form of nippiness to protect himself. Treating him can be tricky as he will try to protect his ears & nails from being touched. He can also be a little anxious due to being moved around a lot and may take some time to adjust and settle into another new environment.

Preston needs an adult home that has the time and resources to keep his allergies in check. Frenchie experience is not necessary, but a basic understanding of dog communication is a must and allergy experience is preferred. Most importantly, Preston needs someone who will be patient, caring and empathetic as he is a really sweet dog who has had to deal with constant allergy-related pain and being moved around to many homes.

Someone who is home all day is not needed, but we’re sure he would love that! Preston would do fine with a working person that can see to it that he gets a mid-day break. He needs a low key environment so we aren’t sure that he’d be able to adjust as an office dog unless your office is very quiet and low-key. Preston rarely barks. An apartment would suit him fine as long as it was quiet.

A few closing words from his foster mom, “Preston really is a sweet dog, and will make a great pet for someone, but has had a rocky time with his allergies and has been bounced around as a result. We have been fortunate enough to watch him shake off his past and begin to enjoy life again. He has the cutest quirky moments rolling around on soft carpet. He really enjoys the simplest things in life, like cuddling on the couch and will fall asleep in your arms. Most people are surprised when they learn of Preston’s age, since he is still a curious dog who seems to be at the beginning of his life. We wish Preston the best of luck in his journey to begin a fresh life with a loving family.”

If you think you’re the right forever home for Preston, tell us why in your application and get prepared for a trip to Pennsylvania. Preston is currently located in the Southeast part of the state and, like all our foster Frenchies, will not be shipped.

FBRN does not ship dogs as cargo. Except in rare or unusual cases, adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family. In rare or unusual cases, FBRN may be able to assist in transporting a dog to a volunteer near the adopter's home, but the expense of transporting the dog must be the responsibility of the adopting party.
