Boing, Boing, Boing – a happy kid in a fur suit, Pogo loves to jump on the bed. With impish joy he bounces, celebrating his good fortune. Until very recently he was a backyard dog whose owner didn’t have time for him. Now he’s safe in FBRN’s care, waiting for his own forever family. With his cute little face’s poochie-out bottom lip, adorable chubby feet, and captivating personality, Pogo won’t be waiting long.
So child-like himself, Pogo adores children. A recent visit to test his reaction to kids and cats was a resounding success. Face-to-face with a very dog-savvy cat, Pogo was fascinated. He gently bopped the cat with his nose, and they chased around pleasantly a bit until bored with the game. Next, ignoring the grown-ups, Pogo focused on the boys. Prior to meeting them, Pogo had never shown much interest in toys. Things changed in a big way as Pogo went on alert for the ball, begging for another “fetch”. Very receptive to the kids’ moods, he stopped doing things that annoyed them and found funny new games to play with them. Pogo would blossom with some sturdy children over five of his own!
Learning to be an indoors pet isn’t easy for a little frog, but Pogo is catching on very quickly. His foster mom says, “He is such an adorable, goofy doofus that it would be easy to dismiss him as a fluffy-headed bumbleball. He is, however extremely smart and learns very quickly.” You go, Pogo!
Learning good manners, he has learned how to walk on a leash and is almost totally dependable with housebreaking. He thinks about marking sometimes, but changes his mind. Under-socialized in his prior life, he can get very overstimulated around larger dogs, but would probably end up playing with proper introductions. An experienced dog person would be able to help Pogo with his continued growth and socialization.
In generally good health, Pogo has slightly elevated ALT liver enzyme levels. He is taking a prescription and milk thistle and the problem should resolve. A laid-back fellow he enjoys sunning himself and ambling along smelling the roses with an occasional good jog thrown in. Although not an absolute, a forever home with a fenced yard is preferred so he can pursue these simple pleasures. He would easily learn to use a doggie door.
Pogo’s foster mom is dreaming of a home with at least one stay-at-home person for her sweet little boy. He has also been to work with her and was a huge hit. He loves it and everyone loves him. If you have to leave the room, he yelps a couple of times and then waits quietly. You will be the toast of the office with Pogo sharing your desk! If you must go to work without him, he would be fine with a mid-day potty break.
A dedicated FBRN volunteer, Pogo’s foster mom talks about her young charge with love. “Pogo has just discovered the joys of furniture and loves to be up on the couch or chair with his person. He LOVES to watch Animal Planet. Sometimes other shows will get his attention, but he will spend a great deal of time watching AP! He would love to sleep in the bed with his people which isn’t allowed here because he is a foster.”
“Pogo is very smart, easily trainable and wants to please his person. He would do well in obedience and possibly even agility, given the opportunity. He would definitely love to learn tricks and earn treats. He loves to be thumped on and loved. Sometimes I swear he was raised by cats because he loves to rub on your legs and roll on your feet.”
“While Pogo enjoys his life with me, he knows this isn’t his forever home. Everywhere we go he looks to see if his forever person is there. I want to find him that loving forever home.”
Somewhere around the corner there’s a cozy home waiting for Pogo with beds to bounce on, kids to play with, and Animal Planet is always on. Perhaps it’s yours? Set the GPS for Colorado to come get him, because he will not be shipped.
