If you are interested in adopting a paralyzed dog and want to learn about how to express a bladder, please view this video.
Miss Pippi Longstocking, like her namesake, has energy, loves to play and have fun, and has already made friends with every friendly dog in town!
Miss Pippi was surrendered after she underwent surgery to repair a ruptured disk, but the surgery was not successful, which resulted in her becoming a paraplegic. Her former family was not ready to take on her changing needs so they surrendered her to FBRN.
Being in a cart hasn't stopped Pippi from running around to play! She's fast on two legs and is ready to race the very second she gets into her cart. Besides being full of energy and activity, Miss Pippi is also sweet and cuddly and loves to show her adoration for people.
Pippi will need a family with a soft spot for dogs that need a little additional care even if this pup herself is unaware of her special needs. She will always be incontinent and she wears a doggy diaper when needed. Her bladder will need to be expressed a few times a day to avoid recurring urinary tract infections. Her foster mom will be able to teach her future family this fairly simple process.
Before entering foster care, Pippi Longstocking was diagnosed with a seizure disorder. She's on medication twice a day, and so far the dosage seems to be working and she has not had any seizures while in FBRN.
While she will need to join a family where she can either go to work with someone or there is someone home to administer her medicine and express her bladder a couple of times a day, the most important feature in a potential adopter will simply be a huge heart. The love that her family will receive in return will make the extra requirements well worthwhile.
Pippi has a wonderful personality and gets along well with other dogs and seems to have no prey drive, so a home with kitty residents should suit her as well. She loves playing with other dogs, though they need to be okay with the potential of getting run over by Pippi's wheels every now and then.
She also loves kids but they should be 5 years of older so they understand how to avoid being run over by a wild Pippi Longstocking racing down the living room or yard.
When it's time for some quiet time, she likes a Nylabone or any old toy or ball that she can keep in her mouth. She likes sharing her toys with dogs but seems to get a kick out of playing keep away when it's a human that wants the ball back.
Now here's a word from her foster mom:
"Pippi is one of the sweetest dogs I've had the pleasure of fostering. She gets along with all dogs and humans. She shares her toys with the other dogs. She snuggles and is just a lover. I would love for her to have an active family. She loves to be chased through the house. I tell her I'm gonna get her and she bounces all over the house. She makes me laugh."
If Pippi Longstocking seems like she may be just the girl for your active household, please submit an application. Get your wheels ready to pick up Pippi and her own set of wheels in NW Oregon where she is being fostered because she will not be shipped.
