Olliedo is ready to find his forever home! Before Olliedo’s previous owners adopted him through another rescue, he lived with an elderly person who had no other dogs or kids, until she was no longer able to care for him. The family who adopted Olliedo saw that he was a poor match for their family as he fought with their dogs. Although we are not clear on the circumstances, it appears that Olliedo bit one of their children. FBRN is very glad that we could help this family and find Olliedo a home that matches his needs.
During his stay in foster care, his foster family assessed Olliedo to find that he would do best as the only dog in the home, and of course, no children. Kids twelve and older that are dog-savvy would be okay, though. There are dogs in Olliedo’s foster home but he’d rather not share his people. Olliedo much prefers a calm and quiet environment to a chaotic and noisy household. When the resident dogs are too rambunctious for Olliedo’s tastes, he retreats to his crate. And although he is willing to share his foster mama’s lap with other pooches, he would prefer to have it all to himself.
Olliedo is mostly laid-back, but exhibits a dominant streak around other dogs. Olliedo does fine passing dogs on the street and didn’t react when a calm dog came to visit for a few hours. What Olliedo does not like is a confrontational dog in his face. Olliedo is much more a people-oriented dog than a dog that wants to join in the pack. He has shown no aggressive behavior in foster care, but he has shown his intolerance to other dogs and responds to correction when he attempts to “play police” and intervene in the fun the dog pack is enjoying. A dog-savvy cat will be considered, as Olliedo seems to have no prey drive.
Olliedo experiences some allergies (grain is very likely the main culprit.) If he doesn’t eat a raw-food diet, he experiences quite a few itchies and runny stools. His forever home will need to commit to continuing Olliedo on this diet, which costs about $55-60 every month. Olliedo doesn’t take any medication for his allergies, other than the occasional Benadryl during the summer. Other than these mild and manageable allergies, Olliedo has no other known health concerns.
Olliedo’s foster family describes the boy as an “old soul in a young body.” He enjoys the calmer side of life. He loves to sit in people’s laps, go for a car ride, and enjoys his raw meals. Olliedo is housetrained and crate-trained, and knows a few commands including “Sit.”
Olliedo would do best in a home with only adults and no other dogs. His forever home will need to have some knowledge of canine behavior because Olliedo occasionally needs to be reminded that he does not run the show! Olliedo would make a fine companion if his owner(s) like to travel. Apartment or house doesn’t matter to Olliedo, as long as you can give him love and let him warm your empty lap. If his forever home does not have a fenced yard, Olliedo will need to have an established routine for potty time.
Olliedo would do fine at home if you have to work. He is good for eight hours with no problems, but if your workday includes a long commute or dinner out, he’ll need a potty break. Olliedo would also happily accompany you to work. He would make a nice laid-back addition to a workplace but would need a secure office if there were other dogs there too.
Olliedo’s foster mom has this to say about the sweet boy:
“Olliedo is such a sweetie and is just looking for the home that wants him and nobody else, and won't put him in uncomfortable positions with kids and dogs. This sweet boy needs a permanent home that will care for him forever.”
Olliedo is resting comfortably by the side of his foster family in Michigan. He’d very happily wait for you to open the car door before jumping in for the ride home, but like all FBRN’s fosters, Olliedo won’t be shipped.
