Nounours is French for “teddy bear” and this sweet old boy’s name suits him well. This guy is a lover – he is a living, breathing teddy bear. Loves belly rubs. He will play and be active with younger dogs, but he seems equally happy just hanging out. He doesn’t know a lot of tricks, but he does love to be around his person. He doesn’t need serious exercise, just attention! He was relinquished because he was “growling” at the young children in his home. Our guess is that he was jealous of his mom’s attention, since he had been an “only child” for many years. Given these concerns, we will limit his potential forever homes to those with children over 10.

Nounours is very healthy! (The vet was surprised he was 9 years old.) He does have some crooked teeth, but vet said that they are in pretty good shape for his age. Nounours is housebroken, though as with any dog, he’ll have an accident if you wait too long to let him out. He is a big marker: he doesn’t mark in the house but will mark at the vet’s office, doggy daycare, and just about everywhere outside.

Nounours will bark if he wants something and feels like he’s being ignored, but his foster family has been working on redirecting him and his barking level has gone down significantly in just a week. He also had some humping issues with other dogs, but that decreased as well once he figured out his place in the pack. He gets along well with other dogs, and he has been to doggy daycare where they said he did just fine. He likes to chew Nylabones and really enjoys a hoof. He also likes a good stuffy – when he gets one he likes, he will hold it in his mouth, lie on his back, and wiggle around.

A first time Frenchie owner is okay for Nounours since he doesn’t have any health problems or Frenchie-specific quirks. He shouldn’t be alone too often, so if his owner works outside the home full time and has a dog walker, it would probably be better if there was another dog at home with him. On the other hand, take this mellow fellow to work with you. His snoozing self will be soothing to all who visit your office.

His foster Mom says, “Nounours is a sweet old gentleman who deserves a family that will spoil him and be devoted to him in his last years. His health is great and there’s no reason to think he won’t be around for a while, but he is old enough that the time he has left should really count! He doesn’t like to be alone much, but when he’s with you he doesn’t demand much attention. Just knowing that you’re there will make him happy. He has these sweet puppy dog eyes that will just make you melt and the thickest, softest coat that you will just want to cuddle with all the time! He is a loveable old soul and has stolen a piece of my heart.”

If Nounours seems like just the teddy bear you need, please appy for him today! But be prepared to take a trip to beautiful North Carolina to fetch him, as he will not be shipped.
