UPDATE 10/07/08
Nina had a condition where her eyelashes
were growing inside the eyelids and irritating the surface of her
eyes. She has had entropion surgery on all four eyelids, and is doing
great! She's now available for adoption again.
What a roller-coaster life has been for Nina! At just 15 months, she's been lost and traveling on the highways of life, found by a shelter, scooped up by FBRN and survived a series of eye surgeries to correct a common condition in bulldogs called cherry eye.
And she's still a pip! Nina is a sweetheart who loves to cuddle. She needs cuddle time as much as she needs food. She really likes kids, but she's a pup herself still, so consider whether your little ones are steady enough to withstand being sideswiped by a bulky young French bulldog.
Nina is a pushy girl--like lots of Frenchie females we know, she likes things her way. She'd do best in a home with another active dog who can hold his own against her demanding temperament without fighting. She loves her yard and playtime, and we are requiring a fenced yard for her so she can enjoy the safety of a backyard and some freedom. Given that she was found a-wandering, she may be one of those footloose Frenchies we hear about from time to time, so a fence is important to her safety.
Nina is housetrained, but occasionally has an accident in her crate at night. Apart from the occasional accident, she is crate-trained and likes to spend time resting in her crate when her crazy 'chase me' games with her foster siblings are temporarily suspended. She's good on a lead, and she has learned "sit."
This girly girl has no temperament issues when it comes to people. Her favorite thing to do is crawl in a lap and get snuggled and be told she is a good, good girl.
We think a first time Frenchie owner would be fine for Nina. Anyone who applies for her should be aware that her eye issues could recur, and she needs eyedrops everyday for dry eye, a consequence of her cherry eye surgery.
Though we would prefer a home all day person for Nina, it's not absolutely necessary. Once she's a little older and calmed down some, she'd be a great go-to-work dog.
Nina is a wonderful dog. She loves everything and everybody. She's blissed out in PA, and if you want Nina to be your own little one, you'll have to come by and pick her up. She won't be shipped.
