Mookie got jealous of the new baby and her former mom and dad grew worried, so they surrendered her to FBRN for rehoming.

Mookie jumps up and is rambunctious, so little kids are a no. But Mookie loves the teenager in her foster home, so older kids would be great!

Try as she might, Mookie's foster mom could not bring about an accord between Mookie and the kitties, so no one with cats should apply for Mookie. Oddly enough, though Mookie got an attitude around the neighbors' dogs and snapped at them, when she met Frenchies at the park, she was a cupcake! She was carefully introduced to the dog in her foster home--a female Staffy mix--and gets along well with her and with a friend's Cocker who spent the night. We think a home with a laid-back Frenchie or a pug might work out well for Mookie, but she'd be great on her own as an only girl, too.

Mookie is in great health.

Temperamentally, Mookie can be a bit of a boss lady. When the teenager brought friends home, Mookie initially was a bit put out and wanted to play the cop; however, after a while she mellowed some and sought attention from the kids, so we think she can be easily trained to lay off The Enforcer schtick. Here's what her foster mom says about life with Mookie: "Mookie is a smart and a very happy dog. She loves being with people. She will trail me around the house and loves to sit with me or my son while we are reading. She is nosey, I like to say interested in everything, sniffing around. She can be a little bossy but my dog did not have an issue with that. I do not think Mookie is submissive and may be a little dominant but she is not at all obnoxious. She is up for a walk whenever you ask her, if it's not raining. If you are going, she will go with you. But she also knows how to relax. Mookie LOVES sucking on her ‘ugly dolls’. She is so cute, Mookie snuggles into a dog bed and she sucks on one her ‘ugly dolls’ until her eyes begin to close. She also loves to play ‘keep away’ and fetch too. Mookie loves chewing on her Nylabones. Mookie loves being around people most of all."

Mookie is housebroken and crate-trained, and she knows intermediate commands like "wait." She always comes when her name is called unless she is in hot pursuit of a kitty cat.

Here's what her foster mom is looking for in a home for Mookie:

"I hope that Mookie goes to a home where she is included in the life of the family and gets to send time with her people. Mookie wants to have attention and I hope she will have a home that will make her a part of the family. If you give her a little attention, she will respond most lovingly.

A family with little kids is not a good idea.

I think she could live with another dog (especially if it is a Frenchie) but not a dominant dog. When Mookie first arrived, she was not dog-friendly, although she was fine with my dog, Sweetie. She had no issues with Mookie and Mookie had no issues with Sweetie.

Mookie was very anxious about city noise when she first came to me although she got used to some of it over the time she was here. She was startled by kids on scooters, skateboards and rollerblades. Sirens (fire trucks and ambulance) were very loud and disturbing but I think she got used to it; loud trucks were a challenge. I think, over time with a lot of reassurance, she would be ok in a city environment.

Mookie went with me to the country and had a blast! She loved running after things in the backyard of my parents' house and was exhausted from fetching. So, if she went to a family with a backyard she would love that.

Mostly, Mookie needs to be part of a family, which I think would make her happiest, even if the family is only one person."

Mookie should NOT go to a home with cats. Cats are an endless source of anxiety for her.

We think Mookie would love to go to work and lie at your feet all day. She could also stay home and wait for you, or have a midday visit or walker. If you work all day, be sure to explain how you plan to spend time with Mookie, since it's being with her people that makes her happiest. Though some city sounds made her anxious, she could live in an apartment or a home. She did love having a fenced yard to run and play in, though, so that would be ideal.

Here are some last words from Mookie's mom:

"Mookie is a great dog and whoever adopts her is a lucky family. She is completely housebroken, crate trained, she has no health issues. She knows many commands but most of all she is a loving, sweet little bundle of happiness! She loves snuggling with her person and keeps her eyes open for any change in activity and is always ready to go or content to relax.

Mookie was obviously part of a loving family and in a very short time she became part of my loving family (although never loving with the cats.) She responds to anyone who is kind with kindness in return. She is cute besides being smart and I believe that she is low-maintenance once she is established in her family. Mookie has everything except for a love of cats – but a lot of dogs do not care for cats. She is a show stopper on the street. I cannot tell you how many people stopped to talk about Mookie. She has incredible breed recognition. Whenever she met a Frenchie, she seemed to melt, which is something I never witnessed before.

Mookie is a great dog, and she deserves a great home with lots of love."

Mookie is hanging out near the Big Apple and her adopters should plan to pick her up. She won't be shipped.
