Mackie’s owner was a breeder, and when she decided to get out of the business, she turned to FBRN to find him a loving family.
Apart from some allergies that can make his eyes water and cause him to sneeze, Mackie is a healthy boy. Give him some Benadryl and wipe his wrinkles from time to time, and he’s just fine.
Mackie got along great with a two year-old he knows, and he likes kitties, too, though he amuses himself by chasing them a little bit. He is fine with other dogs, once he’s had a chance to warm up to them.
His foster mom says: “Mackie has two different modes – he can be very laid-back, and just loaf around the house. His favorite place to be when it’s cold and he’s inside, is lying right in front of the space heater so he can be nice and warm. He’s also content to lie by your feet or with you on the sofa or bed. His other mode is playful – he likes running around the yard with the big dogs, and barking at passersby or chasing the ball or Frisbee. He gets tuckered out after a while, and will find a nice warm spot to lie. “
Mackie is housebroken and crate-trained, but he hasn’t had any obedience training. We must report an incident of a nip toward a child. Mackie was startled awake by his previous owner’s grandchild and nipped her. No broken skin. He has nipped at his foster family as well, and they are working on breaking him of this habit. He can squeal or cry when he is picked up or if a person touches his front paws. We don’t know why that is, but his foster family is working on desensitizing him.
Like most Frenchies, Mackie’s favorite thing is to hang out beside you. If he can’t have you, he’s willing to chew on a toy or play with the other dogs.
What’s the best place for Mac? Hard to say, he’d do well in a variety of environments! Someplace where he’d have both animal and people companions has worked well in his foster home. Ideally, he’d live with someone experienced with Frenchies or brachycephalic dogs, who understands about keeping his wrinkles clean and dry, and doesn’t mind putting a sweater or jacket on to keep him warm in cold weather.
Mackie could stay home all day and have a dog walker, or he’d be a wonderful go to work dog. The assistant at the vet’s office wanted the vet to adopt him so he could hang around with her all day in the office. It’s what he does best.
Apartment, townhouse, or home, all are good. He’s an indoor dog, though, because he can’t take high temps or cold weather. A fenced yard would be great because he is a door dasher.
His foster mom wanted you to know this: “Mackie came to us rather shy and timid. I don’t know if that’s because he had to leave the only family he had known in 5 years, or what else may have caused it. He has really opened up in the time he’s spent with us. He is very loving, and can be very energetic. He does his little “Frenchie wiggle” when he gets excited and starts dancing around and wiggling his butt. He took a while to warm up to our other dogs, but I don’t know his experience with other dogs before us. After two weeks, he’s perfectly fine with any of my dogs (which range from a pug to a 100 lb lab mix and one in between!) He’s only been with one small child, but has done fine with her. I think Mackie (aka Big Mac) will be a great addition to almost any home that is willing to love him endlessly and spoil him, because he deserves it, he’s a great companion. “
If you are ready for a friendly, Texas two-steppin' frog, quit burnin' daylight and put in your application! Mackie is doing the Frenchie wiggle in Texas, and since we don't ship, you should plan on making a trip to the Lone Star state.
