Lu came to us following a sad history of life as a breeding dog. Her owner wished to have her euthanized following an alleged instance of human aggression, possibly provoked. The vet asked if she could observe her, and found that Lu showed no human aggression whatsoever. In the absence of any signs of human aggression, the vet adopted her. Though the vet herself was forced to surrender Lu to us because Lu was aggressive towards other dogs, she loved this girl deeply and found her a desperately appealing character.

Lu is a very healthy girl and has had her narrow nares widened, which makes her breathing very easy. She’s not good with children, because she can’t anticipate what they are going to do and children frequently make loud sounds and quick movements. She doesn’t like cats or other dogs or any other animals, either.

In terms of her personality, Lu is a pistol. She loves a brisk walk and can run like the wind. She can leap fences and possibly tall buildings in a single bound. She plays fetch like a champion. She loves to race and can beat her foster mom and foster Frenchie siblings every time. However, she doesn’t require a lot of exercise. She is more than happy to lay around like a knot on a log and snore. She snores so loud! She is submissive with people, but she is dominant with dogs. Seriously dominant. She bites them and hurts them.

But, she is wonderful with people! Her foster mom can easily put her hand in her food bowl and Lu won’t bat an eye. She is tender with her stuffed toys, and she loves to play fetch with a squeakie. She’s housetrained and accustomed to an exercise pen with a top. She hasn’t had any formal obedience training, though she knows sit and heel and if she gets away from you, she’ll only come back when she’s good and ready. She really needs a tall and sturdy fence, because she can jump 4’ fences and she can climb chain link. She really would make a great pet for Peter Parker, as she could be SPIDERDOG!

Here’s what her foster mom says about Lu: "She runs and jumps and plays like an athlete. She is all muscle and has lots of stamina for a Frenchie. I don’t think it’s necessary for the new owners to be experienced with Frenchies. I think it would be best for her to live in an all adult environment. I think she is the perfect, healthy, beautiful dog except for her aggression towards other animals. I think the person who gets her must not have pets and must understand that Lu is not likely to tolerate them getting one…ever. I think all things are possible and if someone had extensive training in this area they could make progress with her as we have. But at what cost? How many times would their dog be injured, and how severely? I keep expecting her to put my female’s eye out and I just don’t think it’s worth the risk."

She is doing well in her foster home without a mid-day break and she is not having accidents, so working families are welcome to apply. If she could be an only dog at the workplace, she’d be thrilled to go with you! Any kind of home would work, but she is an active girl, so apartment dwellers should count on longish walkies. She’s not going to be the kind of girl you can take to the dogpark. If you have a house, it’s important that she be contained within it by a barrier, so she can’t get loose and run off. She does not respond to commands to return, as we said, and she can bound over most low fences.

Here’s a last word from her foster mom:
As Lu’s foster parents, we fell in love with Lu from the moment we laid eyes on her. We want to help her find a loving forever home. She would make an amazing companion for the right person or family. She is almost 4 years old and completely healthy. She is potty-trained and well past the chewing and misbehaving of her youth. She learns quickly. She can be coaxed into all sorts of uncomfortable things, like nail clipping and foot wiping, with the promise of a treat. She is happy to play with you and will amaze you with her athleticism, but she also respects that we are OLD and TIRED and she gladly rests when we poop out. She likes to have the inside of her ears rubbed and will show her pleasure with all sorts of groaning, snorting noises that you would swear came from a pig if your eyes were closed. Although she has had nares surgery, make no mistake, she breathes loudly. She is happy to sleep in your bed, in her bed, or in another room if you are a light sleeper and her snoring bothers you. She wants nothing more than to be with you and make you happy. Her only request is that she not be forced to share your love with any other small or furry creatures. She has mothered 3 sets of pups and she doesn’t want to mother yours. If you’re a one pet kind of a family, then Lu is the dog for you.

Lu is bounding happily in the Middle part of Tennessee. If you are chosen to be her Spidey pal, you’ll have to swing over there yourself, because we won’t ship her.
