Lola is one of the NC10, a group of dogs who are in limbo until a judge decides whether or not they must go back to the puppymiller from whom they were confiscated over a year ago. The puppymiller has appealed his conviction and the case has been drawn out in court. Lola will be available in a special Foster-to-Adopt contract which will allow her to be fostered and cared for long-term with the hope of adopting her once the appeal has been heard. If the puppymiller wins his appeal, the dogs will be subject to return to the miller.

Lola has some health issues. Her sight is impaired, thanks to an old corneal injury in her right eye and dry eye in her left eye. She will require prescription eye drops twice a day for the remainder of her life. She appears to have a hip problem which causes her to limp when she has been playing too hard. Speaking of playing too hard, Lola loves, loves, LOVES her tennis ball. She would have you throw her ball until your arm is tired! She is so ball-mad that for her own good the ball has to be taken from her sometimes. She will follow people from room to room begging for a game of catch. Obsessed is not too strong a word.

Lola gets a big kick out of children, but at 35 pounds she could easily bowl over a little one. She also loves playing with other dogs, and she seems to take no notice of the foster family's pet chinchilla. She's a lover, not a fighter.

Lola has had a few piddling accidents in her foster home, but for the most part she uses the doggy door. She's crate trained, but she has not been obedience trained. Like many dogs, Lola likes to believe that all the toys are her toys, and so her foster family keeps the toys picked up so as to avoid any arguments between the dogs--likewise, dogs are fed separately to avoid any chance of having food aggression rear its head. When there is nothing to fight over, Lola chases the other dogs in the foster home and plays tag. Then she sleeps.

Ideally, we are looking for a home with someone in the house most of the day, and we'll give preference to a home with an ever-available person. She could be an only dog if there were someone with her most of the day. Otherwise, she would be better off in a home with another dog. She is a happy girl, and she has lots of energy, so be sure to tell us in your application how you would meet her need to burn off some calories. We'd love to see her in a home with older kids who will throw her ball, but no babies or very young and wobbly or easily overturned kids--her bad eyesight makes her a bit prone to startling, so kids should be sensitive to that and parents must be willing to train the kids not to scare her. She'd be great in an office setting. We'll give preference to a home with a fenced yard, as she is accustomed to being able to run around and play outside.

Lola is thinking about her ball in Central Virginia. She won't be shipped.
