Are you looking for a gorgeous, rough and tumble mademoiselle who is poised and ready to pounce on her new life? Lani may be the perfect little addition to your home. Lani was surrendered after a divorce set her into a tizzy and prompted some not-so-ladylike behavior. She bit one family member, and snapped at some visiting teens while she was chewing on a treat. While in her foster home, Lani hasn't shown any aggression, but because of her history, she'd prefer a home without children.
Lani is as healthy as a horse, up to date on her vaccines, microchipped, housetrained, and crate trained. Pretty near perfect except for a few little issues. Lani gets excited easily, like any young pup, but sometimes her excitement can escalate, and she might get a little too wild with children. This may even lead to a bite. We don't know how Lani feels about cats, so we're going to be on the safe side and ask for a home without any feline friends. Lani does like other dogs, but she prefers the boys. She is kind of bossy and rough, so she can be a little much for the females. She'd refer a young, mellow, and active little male companion who doesn't mind being jumped on and tackled. Lani is still a puppy and is not yet good at reading doggie language, so she will butt in and put herself in the center of things. She does not care at all about the age of another dog and will jump on an old dog just as easily as a young dog. She is very responsive to verbal correction and will back off when told to ease up. However, she is more responsive to human correction than canine correction, and she won't back off just because another dog wants her to.
A bit of a diva, Lani is stubborn and dominant and likes to get her way. She can throw temper tantrums, and her foster momma thinks this may be where the biting comes from. Lani must not be allowed to get out of control while playing, and she will need a consistent, firm hand in order to stay balanced. She can escalate very quickly, and that's where the trouble can start. Lani is a very intelligent little girl, and she loses interest in things quickly.
Because she is still a puppy, Lani requires supervision. A busy little puppy, she will look for something to do if you don't provide it for her, so her new home will most likely want to do obedience training and find other outlets for all this energy. Lani can jump - that means baby gates - and she is not shy about doing it. She will most likely need to be crated when not directly supervised. She is crate trained, and has been to five weeks of obedience classes, so Lani knows basic commands and is a dream on a leash.
Lani's perfect home would either have another active dog or would let her be an only baby. Overall, she is more interested in human interaction anyway, so she would just adore the opportunity to soak up all the love and affection you have to offer. Lani is smart, and when asked, she'll settle down. She wants to please and is submissive to her human as long as they remain the leader. Lani seems to prefer women. She sticks to her foster momma like glue, bringing offerings of toys when she gets home from work. Lani likes to be close, but she doesn't like to sit in laps. She'll take all the scritches and rubs you can muster, but she'll sit beside you, thank you very much. What can we say? She knows what she likes. She does give kisses when she's happy.
Lani will need a dog or Frenchie-experienced owner. She cannot be allowed to be the one in charge, as this will lead her into bad behavior. Lani is just like 'the little girl who had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead'. She is such a good girl, lying at your feet, chewing on toys, and rolling around like a silly puppy. Until she gets too excited. Then she goes too far and becomes, well, not so good. Lani does not need someone to be home all day with her, but she might get frustrated if confined for too long, so a visit midday for a walk and a tinkle would be ideal. Lani would also love to come to the office with you because she just loves people. If Lani lives in a house with a yard, it absolutely must be fenced. She really enjoys her time outside, so a fenced yard would be ideal, especially if her forever family comes out with her.
Her foster mom has this to say: I love Lani. She's active, sweet, well-behaved and very pretty. She has learned so much in the time I have had her, especially learning that old dogs are not to be pounced on. She's still a puppy and will learn much more but she needs someone who will understand that she gets a bit over the top when allowed to play with no limits and that this can escalate to a bite. Lani loves a stable home with no huge changes in life. She loves to run to the front gate and bark with the pugs, loves to try and get her plastic chew from my younger pug, and lies at my feet when I'm on the computer. She follows me everywhere and has even tried to climb in the shower with me, but I've also found her nicely sleeping on my bed while I was in another room. She's delightful and I would keep her in a second except that I know she'd love to be one of one or two rather than one of seven. "
Lani is a really great, lovable dog whose personality quirks should be easily controlled with proper training and leadership. If you think Lani would fit right into your home, apply for her now. But remember, she will not be shipped, so plan that trip to sunny California and make a vacation of it!
