Six year old Kellie came to us because her days as a breeding female were over, and her breeder put her on Craigslist. A Good Samaritan bought her and surrendered her to FBRN. Now she needs lots of love to smooth out the rough edges that helped her survive as a breeding mama.
Kellie is easygoing, affectionate, and incredibly eager to please. She is very bright and, without prior obedience training, has already learned to walk on a leash, come when called, and sit on command. Because of her background, Kellie is a bit scared, a bit needy, and very unsure of what a family is all about. She shows this insecurity in little ways. Sometimes she'll sit at a person's feet or put her paws on their lap while looking up with her beautiful brown eyes as if to ask, "Is this OK? Am I OK?" After that, you can't refuse her anything.
While completely submissive with humans, with dogs Kellie is cautious and can be aggressive toward males (wouldn't you be after 6 years of having to guard your food and sleeping place?) She is on the dominant side, but is still sociable and eager to play. She is energetic and athletic when running around the yard with other dogs, but is also happy to do her business and then come inside to snuggle. She is protective of her food and toys with other dogs but not at all with people.
Kellie loves walks and is interested in having a look at and sniff of everything she encounters. Kellie loves her afternoon naps and her early evening playtime with the other dogs in her foster home. She gets very attached to her people and follows her foster parents everywhere, lying quietly at their feet (if snoring counts as quietly…), and waiting politely for invitations to come up on the couch. Her favorite thing in the world is just being with her people.
This jaunty little girl has no health issues. She sports the biggest, sweetest brown eyes imaginable, and her little pink tongue sticks out most of the time. Kellie likes older children, though she might be too rough and tumble for the younger set. She hasn't been observed with cats. Crate trained and house trained, Kellie's only big issue is emotional security, which will just take time, consistency, and reassurance.
Kellie is an excellent companion and would do well with just about anyone who gives her steady love and corrects any mistakes with a firm, gentle voice and hand. She would enjoy a home with at least one child and/or another dog that is not a dominant male. First time Frenchie people would be fine with Kellie as long as they can be forgiving of the typical Frenchie quirks and are understanding of her need for love and reassurance. A stay-at-home owner or home office would be ideal as Kellie likes to have her person around. However, she'd also be fine in a home where her owner/s work, as long as she gets quality time before and after work and some cuddles from a dog walker during a midday break. Kellie would love to go to work with her person because she enjoys the companionship and is interested in, but not aggressively affectionate with, new people. Kellie would love a house with a yard, but would do fine in an apartment as long as her potty breaks are scheduled.
Kellie's foster mom has this to add:
"Kellie is so sweet and loving, and wants so badly to have a permanent home she would do just about anything for you. It is impossible not to love this little dog. She looks right into your eyes when she is near you when you speak to her and then comes onto your lap for a kiss. She doesn't beg at the table but sits a few yards away with her ears up---because you never know! If you talk to her while she is waiting for you to finish eating she'll cock her little head like "What was that? What's going on?" She's never fearful of new situations, just curious and interested. But beware, if someone yells she runs into her crate or any "safe" spot in the house and cowers because she thinks bad things will happen to her. She is probably the best "companion" dog I have ever met because it's not about her, but you. "Will you love me? Oh not right now…..well that's OK. I'll come back. You want to go for a walk? Sure---when?" She will be your best friend and confidante."
If this sweet family gal would make the perfect addition for your family, start thinking about a trip to New York. She's waiting there for you and she won't be shipped.
