Because Kees has been in foster care for so long, he has become very bonded to our family and his foster sister. We would like his adopting family to live within a 3 hrs. driving distance of Western TN so he can have a gradual transition to his new home.

Kees (pronounced "case") was found as a stray in Ohio, picked up by animal control and brought to a shelter. After the required seven days passed without anyone turning up to claim him, the shelter contacted FBRN. We are so grateful they did!

When Kees first came to his foster mom, he was malnourished with a bad case of mange and his ears, eyes and teeth were infected. He has cleaned up quite nicely and absolutely flourished while in foster care. However, Kees does still have a few health concerns. He has a compromised airway (everted saccules) which causes him to be susceptible to acute aspiration pneumonia. Because he is NOT a candidate for surgery to repair this condition there is a possibility that he may eventually need a permanent tracheotomy. Kees also has hypothyroidism and will require maintenance medications for both conditions. His medications are approximately $100 per month. Moreover, Kees has severe allergic reactions that can cause him to suffer bacterial infections and can warrant a trip to the vet. Adopters will have to bathe him regularly and watch for early signs of an allergic reaction.

Kees is low to moderately active and enjoys short walks and exploring his yard with his foster sister and best Frenchie pal. Kees likes to play rough and tumble with his foster sister, but is a very gentle player with other dogs. Kees is housebroken, crate-trained, and even knows a few basic commands. He has no food or toy aggression, but can get a little mouthy during playtime. His foster mom has been working with him on that to be sure it doesn't turn into a bad habit. There has been only one incident of aggression in which Kees lunged at a large dog that was visiting and his foster mom had to pull him away. Even though they are now friends, we prefer that Kees be placed in a forever home with dogs his size or smaller. He is very polite and well behaved in the house and is neither dominant nor submissive; he is an even keel guy that typically gets along well with everyone.

Kees loves to cuddle as much as possible. Belly rubs are the BEST and he will let you know "when" by putting his paw up and looking sideways. His foster mom tells us that he has a platform at the front window where he loves to watch the goings on in between snoozes. Kees also likes to chase toys when the mood strikes and chew on Nylabones. We hear that he has quite the collection of Nylbones! Kees also loves car rides and short walks but is pretty laid back, and most of the time he just tends to go with the flow. He enjoys zoomies once or twice a day and that is really all he seems to need for exercise. He does LOVE being outside in his yard digging and rolling in the grass, but most of all he loves to be with his people and dogs friends.

Kees's perfect home would be a couple or family with older children where someone is home all day. He really would love a small doggie companion but probably not another species. Due to his medical condition, he needs an experienced brachycephalic breed person. Kees would do best in a house with a fenced yard and someone who was home most or all of the day or even someone that could take him to work with them.

Here is a word from Kees's loving foster mom, "Kees is the most wonderful little friend! He's been through so many rough spots on his journey but he's come through it all and is ready for his perfect home. He is just about the sweetest little guy and such a gentleman. What I want most for him is a loving family who will cherish him; he would thrive with another small doggie friend to play and cuddle with. His family will have to be very attentive to his medical needs, have access to a veterinarian with emergency care and experienced with Brachycephalic breeds, preferably in the West TN area. It is all more than worth it because he is just the best boy and all he wants is to be loved, and to snuggle....A LOT!"

If you're ready for a trip to Tennessee, and feel like your home is perfect for a handsome love-bug, then please apply for Kees today!
