Kai was surrendered to FBRN after her former owners had a new baby. It is recommended
that she go to a child-free home, as she can play quite rough. If she were an athlete,
she’d prefer football to golf.
Kai is great with other dogs; any size and gender are fine. She gets along great with the
Pit Bull and two Boston Terriers in her foster home. In fact, she has become BFF's with
the one year-old Boston girl, and together they spend hours wrestling, playing
tug-of-war, and running laps around the house. Dogs who live for rough-and-tumble play
would be a good match for Kai’s energy and stamina. Kai loves to wrestle with people too!
She will paw at you to play with or pet her some more if you stop too soon.
Kai likes to play a little rough with the kitties, but otherwise does fine with them. A
home with dog-savvy cats should be fine.
Kai is allergic to chicken and beef, but she does great on a chicken and beef-free diet
that will need to be continued by her forever family. She has a reported history of a
back problem but has shown no signs of this while in foster care. Kai’s ears need to be
cleaned regularly in order to avoid an infection.
Kai loves to run all over, go for walks and splash around in the water. Kai loves any
toy—a ball, a stuffie, or a bone. Her favorite thing is to pull the squeakers out of
toys, and she is quite a pro at it! Kai also loves going for car rides and feel the wind
in her fur. Although Kai loves activity, she is also a great cuddler and likes to give
kisses and get her belly and neck rubbed. She enjoys sitting on your lap when you watch
TV, and snooze with you in bed.
When she first meets new people, Kai is a little scared, but give her a little time and
she’ll make fast friends. Kai will need someone who is willing to work with her on
warming up to new people. She needs a day or two to get to know someone and learn to
trust them, but once she does she is a loving little lady. Kai also does not like going
to the vet, she was there a lot in her 1st year (nothing serious - just a few bumps and
bruises along the way) and she has an aversion to going there.
Kai is crate trained and housetrained. She hasn’t had any formal obedience training.Kai
is an extremely intelligent dog and is a very very good listener. She tilts her head
sideways a lot when you talk as if she is paying close attention to what you have to say.
Kai smiles at you too!
Kai doesn’t need someone who is home all day. Of course, it’s great if her family works
at home or has alternating work schedules, but if her people must work to keep Kai
supplied with chicken and beef-free treats, and replace squeakers in her toys, a mid-day
dog walker would be fine.
Work? No thanks, says Kai! Her daytime schedule is quite busy with playtime, but she
promises that when you come home in the evenings she will be ready for a nice walk, ball
throwing, wrestle time, and snuggle time on the couch with you.
Kai would do fine in an apartment, house, fence or no fence.
Her foster mom has this to say about Kai:
“Kai is a wonderful, smart little lady. She keeps us all laughing with her funny facial
expressions and silly noises she makes. She even listens better than my own dogs! She has
had a blast playing with my two Bostons and my male Pit Bull. Kai is such a lovable girl,
and I have loved every second of fostering her. I love her kisses, cuddling with her
through the night, wrestling with her, taking her for long walks, and cracking up at all
the silly things she does. She is such a sweetheart!”
Kai is smiling and playing tug-of-war in Eastern Pennsylvania. Be ready to hit the open
road and roll the window down so this girl can enjoy the breeze, but Kai will not be
shipped.
