JAQUES BO! Say his name with happiness and verve, as this dog has lots of love to give and energy to share! This sweet brindle and white Frenchie, the one whose eyes give a perpetual surprised look to his face, is ready to join his forever home. Jaques Bo had to be surrendered when his dad lost his home. Since being in FBRN’s care, Jaques Bo has been neutered, visited the dermatologist, has adjusted to a twice-weekly bath routine, and undergone changes in his diet that have helped his itchies considerably.
But Jaques Bo’s stay with his foster family hasn’t just been about his medical care; he’ll be the first to tell you that he’s been busy with all kinds of fun activities! Jaques Bo loves meeting other dogs and going on walks. His favorite place to be is the dog park! Jaques Bo hasn’t met another dog he hasn’t liked, but doesn’t always catch onto other dogs’ warning signals that they are not interested in play—he continues to engage and sniff. He is a bit of a freight train on the leash when he meets folks on his walks—he’s excited to make new friends, and his foster mom cautions that he’ll need further training and support to discourage the leash-pulling. Fortunately, Jaques Bo is pretty food-motivated and has lots of potential to learn more commands. (And he stands up and twirls like a ballet dancer for a treat!) Jaques Bo loves to play with other dogs and will need a playful doggy companion in his forever home. He reportedly got along really well with cats in his previous home, so dog-savvy cats will be considered. Jaques Bo gets along well with children, but can be a bit jumpy, and can mouth a bit when he plays, so a home with dog-savvy, sturdy kids who won’t get bowled over would be fine.
Overall, Jaques Bo is submissive and playful. As far as games, Jaques Bo is more of the gentle wrestling type than playing fetch or tug-of-war. He does tire rather easily, and his forever home will need to monitor his level of play as Frenchies overheat rather easily. Jaques Bo was evaluated for elongated palate surgery while in foster care, but the vet didn’t think that it wasn’t warranted.
Like many Frenchies, Jaques Bo has allergies, and is on a strict diet that his forever home will need to continue. He is fed Natural Balance duck and potato formula, and cannot have other kinds of food, not even snacks with a little bit of other types of ingredients. Jaques Bo’s allergies will require monitoring and possible visits to dermatologists and other specialists for allergy testing and other kinds of treatment. If Jaques Bo gets itchy, he can develop cherry eye, but the vets do not recommend treatment as it resolves quickly on its own. Jaques Bo’s foster mom also operates a special spa for him—the boy gets medicated baths twice a week! It helps him be less itchy, and we’re pretty sure he smells real nice too.
Jaques Bo uses a doggy door in his foster home, which took him a week or so to adapt to, and if he hadn’t been on steroids, housetraining may have even come quicker. His forever person or people should expect that he will have some accidents as he transitions to his new home. He tolerates the crate but whines a bit, and he’d probably do fine unrestricted if there’s a doggy gate to keep him out of trouble.
Jaques Bo likes to sit at your feet, but is not big on the snuggling. He’s the kind of dog who is happy to know that you are close by, but he doesn’t demand constant attention as some Frenchies are known to do. So if you leap off the couch when your team scores a point, there’s no chance of lap doggy falling to the floor! Jaques Bo is not big on the licking either, though he loves to sniff you. In fact, he loves to sniff lots of stuff—his foster mama says that Jaques Bo’s little nose just doesn’t stop! Jaques Bo sleeps on his own doggy bed, and likes to be in the same room as you are for bedtime.
Ideally, Jaques Bo’s new person or people would have some brachycephalic experience and especially some familiarity with allergies and overheating. He’d do fine if his person or people worked full-time outside the home, as long as there was another dog to play with during the day. Jaques Bo might not be ready for the office just yet, but if he had some training to help with his jumping up on people, he’d probably do fine. Jaques Bo would be pretty content entertaining himself with his doggy pals, chew toys, and cushy beds during the day while you are at work earning a living to buy his duck and potato doggy biscuits and special doggy shampoos. Jaques Bo would do best in a home with a fenced yard, even if it’s a small one.
His foster mom has this to say about him, “Jaques Bo is a wonderful frogdog. He loves everyone, both two-legged and four-legged. Jaques has never met a stranger. He never has a bad day, and loves to live life. Take him for a short walk, or take him to the dog park, and he is in 7th heaven. Jaques needs to have a doggy friend at home who loves to play and hang out. He does needs a little work on loose lead walking and learning how to keep all four paws on the ground, but other than that, he’s perfect in my eyes! Jaques needs someone who’s dedicated to dealing with his skin allergy, or he may become very itchy and uncomfortable. A small burden to bear for such a great dog!”
Jaques Bo is enjoying the rays of sunshine in Southern California. He would happily do his ballet twirl to your car for the drive home, but he won’t be shipped.
